In a 211–210 vote, House Republicans have blocked a Democrat-introduced amendment aimed at forcing the Justice Department to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 on federal charges for sex trafficking.​

While awaiting trial, Epstein was found dead in his jail cell — his death ruled by suicide. Conspiracy theories quickly spread, saying that he was murdered to protect the names of other powerful people who may have partaken in the crimes.


Despite Attorney General Pam Bondi claiming that additional information about Epstein — including the 'client list' — was "sitting on [her] desk right now to review," the Justice Department released a memo backtracking on Bondi's claim. The memo stated that there was no evidence of an "incriminating 'client list'" and concluded that Epstein did, in fact, die by suicide.​
