Response to President Calderon

I am undecided on which one is more despicable and disgusting to me... Calderon hypocritically lecturing us about immigration law, or Democrats cheering him on with a standing ovation! I think it is appalling enough the bastard was allowed to address the United States Congress, but to have the unmitigated gall to say what he said, and then have the Democrats applaud him, it's just beyond words for me.. and that is rare!

This smacks of Community Organization on behalf of the White House... I'll bet money, Obama TOLD him to say those things-- and instructed his sycophants to stand up and cheer! This was purely an orchestrated event, because Democrats think they have a big opportunity to gain support in November.... not sure why they think this, they already had a large chunk of the Hispanic vote, and 65% of the country agrees with the AZ law... but I guess you do this sort of thing when you're desperate?

They cheered Mexico's president who of course wants continued illegal workers money being sent back to Mexico. We are talking billions of dollars that if stopped would see his country's economic collapse. ~~~

Then we have democrats who are supporting left-wing amnesty groups to gain even more votes...they are after all the queens of creating voting blocks of people they really don't give two-shits about. And of course least we forget the anchor babies who are being raised on welfare dollars to secure their vote for democrats.

American's have awoken!; we smell the proverbial coffee of partisan BS. Because we must also acknowledge republicans refusal to seriously tackle a problem because illegals support the cheap wage of business dollars~~~This is why someone like Rand Paul can win a primary.

Today I have once again seen that we share the hope to turn this relationship between the people from the United States of America and the people from Mexico into an example of how much can be achieved among neighbors when working together under the guidance of common ideals such as peace, security, prosperity, freedom and democracy.

Today we promote the agreements and the actions of cooperation that our countries need in order to face the new challenges to benefit fully of the enormous advantages as a result of being neighbors and the long borderline that unites us.

Today Mexico and the United States are immersed in a new stage of cooperation, and we base our efforts in the principles of shared responsibility, mutual respect and trust.

We fully understand that our joint work has a direct impact in both populations in its well-being and happiness. We are neighbors; we are partners; we are allies; and we are also friends.

I have said this, and allow me to repeat it: We work with a certainty of what is good for the United States of America is good for Mexico, and if we understand this, at the same time, what is good for Mexico is good for the United States.

I would like to congratulate the people of the United States of America for having a President like President Barack Obama, with his leadership, which is also very positive and good for us.

Muchas gracias a ustedes por su atención.

I want everyone, American and Mexican, to know my administration is taking a very close look at the Arizona law.

We’re examining any implications, especially for civil rights, because in the United States of America, no law-abiding person, be they an American citizen, a legal immigrant, or a visitor or tourist from Mexico, should ever be subject to suspicion simply because of what they look like.

The political challenge is, is that I have confidence that I can get the majority of Democrats, both in the House and the Senate, to support a piece of legislation of the sort that I just described.

But, I don’t have 60 votes in the Senate. I’ve got to have some support from Republicans.

When we made an effort of this sort a few years ago, it was under the leadership of John McCain and Ted Kennedy, and because there was a bipartisan effort, we were actually able to generate a majority of votes in the Senate, and we just missed being able to get it done in the House.

If we can re-create that atmosphere, I don't expect to get every Republican vote, but I need some help in order to get it done and there have been people who have expressed an interest.

But, if they're willing to come forward and get a working group and get this moving, I’m actually confident that we can get it done and the American people, including the people of Arizona, are going to prefer that the federal government takes responsibility and does what it’s supposed to do.

We are celebrating the Bicentennial of our Independence, two hundred years of being proudly free and proudly Mexican. At that time, Mexico was the first nation to abolish slavery in the whole of continental America, and it is exactly one hundred years since the Mexican Revolution, a revolution against oppression, a revolution for justice and democracy.

As you can see, Mexico was founded on the same values and principles as the United States of America.

We are very proud of this past. However, the Mexican people and their government are focused on the future.

That is why Mexico is a country in a continuous process of transformation. We are determined to change, and we are taking the decisions that are going to make Mexico a more prosperous democracy.

One of the main changes taking place in Mexico is our commitment to firmly establish the rule of law. That is why we are deploying the full force of the State to confront organized crime with determination and courage.

Let me be clear, this fight is not only and not mainly about stopping the drug trade. It is first and foremost a drive to guarantee the security of Mexican families, who are under threat from the abuses and the vicious acts of criminals.

As I told the Mexican people in my inaugural speech, restoring public security will not be easy and will not be quick.

It will take time; it will take money and, unfortunately, to our deep sorrow, human lives as well.

This is a battle that has to be fought, because the future of our families is at stake. But, I told them, you can be sure of one thing. This is a battle that, united, we the Mexican people will win.

We cannot ignore the fact that the challenge to our security has roots on both sides of the border. At the end of the day its origin is the high demand for drugs here.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said “We accept our share of the responsibility, we know that the demand for drugs drives much of this illicit trade.”

This is symbolic of our new relationship. We have moved from the suspicion and the mutual recrimination of the past to the cooperation and mutual understanding of the present.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate President Obama for his recent initiative to reduce the consumption of drugs. I hope, for the good of both nations and the entire hemisphere, that this succeeds.

Now, let me tell you what Mexico is doing to confront and overcome this problem.

First, we have not hesitated to use all the power of the state, including the federal police and the Armed Forces, in order to support the local governments that are facing the greatest threat from organized crime.

Second, we are weakening the financial and operational capabilities of criminal gangs. Federal operations have led to record seizures of drugs, cash and weapons from the criminals. The Federal Forces have also arrested many important felons who are now facing Mexican justice, and we have extradited a record number of criminals to face justice in the United States.

Third, we are rebuilding our institutions and security forces, especially at the federal level. We have more than tripled the federal police budget since the beginning of my Administration and multiplied the size of its force. We are recruiting honest young men and women with values, who are better trained, better paid and better equipped.

Fourth, we are transforming our judicial system to make it more transparent and efficient. We are moving towards open trials that are the basis of your own judicial system.

And fifth, we have set up social programs to prevent young people from turning to crime, including prevention and treatment for addictions.

As you can see, Mexico is doing everything it can to fight this threat and to secure our common future. We are fulfilling our duty as a good neighbor, taking care of business on our side of the border.

The U.S. is also helping. Congress approved the Merida Initiative, which we greatly appreciate, and our Administrations are sharing more information than ever to fight crime.

However, there is one issue where Mexico needs your cooperation, and that is stopping the flow of assault weapons and other deadly arms across the border.

It is true that the U.S. Government is now carrying out operations against gun traffickers. But it is also true that there are more than 7 thousand gun shops along the border with Mexico, where almost anyone can purchase these powerful weapons.

Let us work together to end this lethal trade that threatens Mexico and your own people.

I have spoken at length on this issue, because I know it is a big concern of the American people. However, as I said, Mexico is a country undergoing deep transformations, and our relationship is about much more than just security.

I strongly disagree with the recently adopted law in Arizona. I agree with President Obama who said the new law “carries a great amount of risk when core values that we all care about are breached.”

We cannot ignore this threat to civil rights and democracy, two core values that we share; we must find a better way to face and fix together this common problem.

I have come here as your partner and as your friend. Our two great nations are joined by geography and by history, as well as by a shared brilliant future.

I believe in the future of North America as the strongest, most prosperous region in the world.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said that “the only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.”

Let us work together in order to give our peoples the future they deserve.

America’s diversity is America’s strength. That’s why I spoke out against the recently passed law in Arizona.

Make no mistake, our immigration system is broken, and after so many years in which Washington has failed to meet its responsibilities, Americans are right to be frustrated, including folks along border states.

But the answer isn’t to undermine fundamental principles that define us as a nation.

We can’t start singling out people because of who they look like, or how they talk, or how they dress. We can’t turn law-abiding American citizens and law-abiding immigrants into subjects of suspicion and abuse.

We can’t divide the American people that way. That’s not the answer.

That’s not who we are as the United States of America, and that’s why I’ve instructed my administration to closely monitor the new law in Arizona, to examine the civil rights and other implications that it may have.

That’s why we have to close the door on this kind of misconceived action.

Again, no one entered into your national socialist contract. There is nothing in the DofI about government's purpose being to protect your job.

Nations have immigration policies to protect all kinds of things. labor markets is one of them. ONly in your globalist psychosis is it ok for a government to simply stop doing the traditional tasks of modern statehood. Sensible trade and immigration policy is not socialism.

I will dare to say that it's historic given the level of understanding and trust that we have reached.

For the meantime, I would just like to highlight this open and honest and constructive dialogue that we keep and hold with the government of President Obama and these two countries that allows me to see the strength and leadership of the President of the United States.

Obama is a fool, just like you.

Fuck you, dumbass. Teddy Roosevelt was an enemy of the Constitution and our founders. We tolerate dumbasses like him and you because of the Constitution he attacked. YOU are the anti-American.

I erected no straw man, I quoted his book and gave a link to it. Teddy's disgusting views on the inferior races is relevant when talking about his views on immigration and assimilation.

And fuck you right back peckerhead...

TRs views on the Manifest Destiny are IRRELEVANT to the topic of the thread....his cited quote is what is being discussed....
and I repeat....

The quote cited by Rep. Tom McClintock stands on its own as exactly what our law is and what it must be....and the reasons it is our law.
Roosevelt's beliefs on the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and yes, even Manifest Destiny are irrelevant.

So what other of our nations Presidents and heroes of our country were you brainwashed to dispise....?

Maybe anti-American was to mild an accusation to fit your pinhead beliefs.

TR was not a hero. He was a horrible, warmongering ideologue. His successful presidency was, like Jefferson's, a product of him not living up to his core principles.

So you don't think his views on race/culture and white supremacy influenced his views on immigration? Really?

Teddy Roosevelt was no hero. I will stand with, Mark Twain, a true American hero in his summation of Roosevelt as "clearly insane." His biography tells of an episode where after an argument with his girlfriend he went home and shot his neighbor's dog. And that is just the start of it. I am sorry you only know the fables you were spoonfed in high school. Do you also believe the story of Washington and the cherry tree?

More from Twain on Teddy...

He is magnificent when his ears are pricked up and his tail is in the air, and he attacks a lightning express, only to be lost in the dust the express creates.
- quoted in Isabel Lyon's Journal, 1/7/1906

Mr. Roosevelt is the Tom Sawyer of the political world of the twentieth century; always showing off; always hunting for a chance to show off; in his frenzied imagination the Great Republic is a vast Barnum circus with him for a clown and the whole world for audience; he would go to Halifax for half a chance to show off and he would go to hell for a whole one.
- Mark Twain in Eruption

We are insane, each in our own way, and with insanity goes irresponsibility. Theodore the man is sane; in fairness we ought to keep in mind that Theodore, as statesman and politician, is insane and irresponsible.
- Letter to J. H. Twichell, 2/16/1905

Our people have adored this showy charlatan as perhaps no impostor of his brood has been adored since the Golden Calf, so it is to be expected that the Nation will want him back again after he is done hunting other wild animals heroically in Africa, with the safeguard and advertising equipment of a park of artillery and a brass band.
