Who is bailing out Greece and why?

Because the wasteful spending, if cut, would mean people would lose Government sponsored jobs.

If you cut the waste out of education.... a lot of admin jobs would be lost

If you cut waste out of defense.... defense contractors would cut jobs, you would also lose admin here

etc....

It is the same reason they won't go to a flat tax with standard deduction. They will not do anything that requires a job to be cut. Despite the fact that it is in the best long term interest of this country.

edit: Side note Water... YOU were the one that added 'without losing political capital'... something I never stated

I can't imagine that they'd lose much political capitol for eliminating government jobs. Clinton eliminated 350k of them. If you wanted to eliminate a lot of them, of course, you'd have to eliminate them slowly so as to not shock the market.

If europe is to survive, they need the EU. I hope they survive the present crisis. I hope the US does not have to stick it's head out in the post-western century for liberal democracy alone.

You mean we don't already? Okay, we have the UK and Australia, neither of which are members of the EU...

LOLZ, so what became of the EEC thing that you lot created back in the day? Apparently my history is out of date...

The EEC became the European Community then changed its name to the EU sometime in the 90s (i think). Some members have adopted the Euro while other, more sensible nations like Denmark, Sweden and ourselves, kept our own money.

Basically we all still dislike each other and share a mutual distrust but we don't like to create a scene in front of the neighbours.

Okay. Personally I understand why you don't want to drop the Pound, seeing as how it was the world's highest currency until recent years. I actually had to just Wiki it to make sure it wasn't still the highest... :clink:

:)

There's that and when you look at the Euro notes they are so...well...common looking. I'm not using currency with pictures of bloody bridges and windows on it.

So, am I to gather that there is a contingent of the British population that is petitioning for all currency to have Page 3 Girls printed on them? :D

:yay:
