Point of order: FBI statistics indicate that one in every ten officer involved shootings (when a cop shoots his/her gun) kills or seriously injures a innocent by standard.
I think you meant bystander!!

I disagree with their overall assessment of Wolf/Shepard mixes.
When my kids were younger, we had one and the trick is making sure that they understand who's in charge.
My hyprid knew from the beginning, when he was a put, that I and my wife were the Alphas, the kids were next in line, and he was the low man on the totem pole.
Best family dog we ever had.
He used to be in the front yard and when he heard the back door open, for the kids to go and hang up the clothes from the washer, he would go to the back yard, lay down, watch them until they were done and went back in the house, and then he would go back and lay in the front yard.
He would do this all day long.
I never worried with him being around my kids, not did I have to worry about anyone coming close to them.
The cop fired his gun at a moving animal in a residential area. Kids were playing basketball across the street! You're damned right I am saying children were in danger. There is absolutely no way you can say otherwise.
The cop made a judgement call based on his own laziness and callous attitude. His killed a family pet that showed absolutely no signs of aggression and was running away scared.
Dog lover? I have owned dogs my entire life. I do love my dogs. And I see that this entire thing has become a witch-hunt based on a tiny minority portion of the breed that have been mistreated or abused.
But this dog was no danger to anyone, and the cop had no reason to think otherwise. The fact that this ACO had not completed the training needed to qualify with a tranquilizer gun, but somehow thought he was allowed to discharge his firearm in a neighborhood (when no one was in any danger) is an absolute travesty.
Actually Rottweilers are number two on the list behind Pit Bulls. The list can be found at http://www.dogbitelaw.com/Dog Attacks 1982 to 2006 Clifton.pdf
I have never shied away from the fact that when Pits bite they bite well and are very damaging. This list is ONLY dogs bites that cause bodily harm, maiming and death. It does not relate to the number of overall reported dog bites.
Come on! You think the cop would have fired his gun with kids in the background? He probably fired with the dog in range.
"After in depth research and analyzing the studies performed by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the CDC, and the Humane Society of the United States, we have compiled the top ten most dangerous dog breeds."
They compiled the list, not any of the associations they listed.
Also, they do not show the research. And who identified the dogs in all these incidents as pit bulls? According to what I have read in several places, pit bulls are misidentified by animal control officer and civilians alike.
They used the research from the said groups. pit bulls are misidentified?LOL Give me a break!
I read the news on a regular basis and know the majority of vicious attacks are from pit bulls.
Wise2moron. It's the idiots training the dogs to fight not the breed.

Right. The FBI likes to just pull things like that out of random strangers' behinds. If those statistics are true? There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with American cop training.
I think these statistics were pulled out of someone's ass.
I totally disagree. Banning pitbulls would save more kids and people from being mauled and losing arms and legs. This level of damage has not been done by any other breed of dog.
Dobermans were also known to be out of control but nothing in comparison to the damage inflicted by the lock jaw of a pit bull.
The owner should have had adequate fencing to contain the dogs. Not to mention they should be muzzled in public. And future sales of pit bulls and breeding should be illegal.
Really? Name another breed that has done more damage than a pit bull. When my friend got attacked, he reported it to the police and the police came armed with a shotgun and said he would kill it on site and that those dogs are the most vicious breed and has seen numerous cases of what the dogs have done.
Sounds good to me. And if the dog did any damage? The owners should be charged and sued.
I think the owner is at fault for any unprovoked dog attack. Dogs are not difficult animals to manage.
Statistically, I'll bet you'd never guess which breed inflicts the most number of dog bites per annum.
Guess yet?
Yep. Knew it before I scrolled down. Got one of those lousy Golden Retrievers. Great dog. Why do they inflict the most bites per year? Because they're popular and lots of folks have them. A kid rolls on one's tail and 'snap'....that's generally the way it happens. Love the breed. Mine's a good dog. Don't recommend anyone getting a registered one though as hip displaysia (sp?) is a problem.
To the topic of the thread, I wouldn't have a pit but would not ban others from having them. My reasoning is that if my Retriever was to bite my kid, it would most likely be a snap and that would be it. If a pit decides to bite him...well, it could be devastatingly worse.
Right. The FBI likes to just pull things like that out of random strangers' behinds.
RIGHT! 1 out of 10 shots, shoot a bystander. Do you know how silly that sounds? There would be no police force because they would have their butts sued!
