Odd Time for a "Taxed Enough Already" Movement

It's enough to make me think the movement has something to it other than taxes:

Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found.
Some conservative political movements such as the "Tea Party" have criticized federal spending as being out of control. While spending is up, taxes have fallen to exceptionally low levels.

Federal, state and local taxes — including income, property, sales and other taxes — consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century. The overall tax burden hit bottom in December at 8.8.% of income before rising slightly in the first three months of 2010.

"The idea that taxes are high right now is pretty much nuts," says Michael Ettlinger, head of economic policy at the liberal Center for American Progress. The real problem is spending, counters Adam Brandon of FreedomWorks, which organizes Tea Party groups. "The money we borrow is going to be paid back through taxation in the future," he says.

come on we all know higher taxes are the lie the KKK has used to try and rebrand themselves as tea baggers.

tea baggers might at least be able to give us some gridlock as they are purging the old republicans.

Once again the hacks at the liberal nuthouse Center for American Progress show that they have little understanding of taxes or the economy. Leave it to Dung to post them as some sort of credible source. Of course it should come as no shock that he has no comprehension how taxes can be a concern in this environment.

1) The effective tax rates were down so much due to the massive job losses

2) the effective tax rates were down so much due to the massive losses in the market, (which are used to offset income)

3) The taxes for calendar year 2009 were NOT the friggin issue. The issue is the massive government debt and the realization by all sane people that the massive spending is going to lead to HIGHER TAXES in the future. It is the massive SPENDING that the tea party wants stopped so as to alleviate the need to RAISE TAXES in the future. Again, I understand incompetent hacks like the those found at the Center for American Progress are going to try everything they can to spin this into a 'gee them tea party people is nuts' moment. They will continue to pretend it was 2009 that the tea party must be talking about.

4) It should also come as no surprise that a hack like Dung would post crap like this as some sort of 'gee them tea party people must have another reason other than taxes for protesting... I bet it is because Obama is black' bullshit.

1) It's a USA Today article.

2) Thank you for acknowledging the central premise of the piece, which is that notwithstanding what you may have heard, total taxes are at historically low levels.

3) I didn't realize that you were the spokesperson for the Tea Baggers.

4) I thought the point of the "Taxed Enough Already" movement was that they pay enough taxes already as the slogan suggests.

5) I never proffered any hypothesis as to what the alternative motive for the TEA Bagger protests were. You immediately jump to race. Guilty conscience?

Personally, I think its more of a partisan thing. TEA Baggers are Republicans. That's the beginning and end of everything you need to know about them.

1) It's a USA Today article.

and WHO do they quote as their source for the data twit? That's right... the liberal idiots at Center for American Progess.

2) Thank you for acknowledging the central premise of the piece, which is that notwithstanding what you may have heard, total taxes are at historically low levels.

Which again, is not a shock in the least. Anyone who understands how taxes work will know that after a collapse in the market and massive losses of jobs that total tax revenues would be down. Especially when you add in the potential loss of property taxes in states where those adjustments are made annually on market value of property.

The point which you and the idiots at the CfAP don't comprehend is that people are not protesting the taxes they paid THIS year. So the point is moot in terms of what the tea party is talking about.

3) I didn't realize that you were the spokesperson for the Tea Baggers.

One does not have to be a member of the Tea Party to be intelligent enough to understand what they are protesting. Only complete morons such as yourself seem to be having a problem with understanding the basic principle they are pissed about.

4) I thought the point of the "Taxed Enough Already" movement was that they pay enough taxes already as the slogan suggests.

Again twit... they are talking about tax rates... they don't want tax rates going higher. Which IF the massive spending continues will be inevitable. Only morons would come to the conclusion they mean 'hey we paid more in 2009'. That is simply the idiotic spin that comes from wingnut groups like Center for American Progress.... and only greater fools fall for their spin.

5) I never proffered any hypothesis as to what the alternative motive for the TEA Bagger protests were. You immediately jump to race. Guilty conscience?

Not in the least. I just went with the standard bullshit line from the left. Given that you are such a lemming, it was a safe assumption to make.

Personally, I think its more of a partisan thing. TEA Baggers are Republicans. That's the beginning and end of everything you need to know about them.

On that point, I will agree to an extent. Partisanship certainly is playing a role in this. Bush and the Rep Congress were hardly fiscally responsible either. That said, it was the TARP and the 'stimulus' packages which set the tea party formation into motion. Such back to back massive expenditures with seemingly little recapture for the taxpayer pissed a lot of people off. Add in the fact that sooner or later we would thus have to pay back that debt via higher taxes and any sane person can see why people were pissed.

One thing you ignore is that there are also independents in the tea party movement and more independents who agree that the massive spending is not sustainable. Even a layman can connect the dots to between what is occurring in Greece and the direction we are heading with our national debt.

"That said, it was the TARP and the 'stimulus' packages which set the tea party formation into motion. Such back to back massive expenditures with seemingly little recapture for the taxpayer pissed a lot of people off. "

I always thought this was kind of ironic.

If you're getting a business going, you put out more money than you're bringing in; that's because you're counting on a RETURN.

We lost more than TARP & stimulus cost combined from the start of the crash to the passage of the stimulus. I think a very sound argument can be made that the U.S. economy could have lost twice as much - if not much more - if neither had passed.

"Pennywise, pound foolish"

No, they quoted someone from CAP commenting on USA Today's analysis of federal data. Go re-read the first paragraph of the article, hotshot.

Not in the least. I just went with the standard bullshit line from the left. Given that you are such a lemming, it was a safe assumption to make.

Actually, in the least. You betrayed your conscience with the race-baiting bullshit.

On that point, I will agree to an extent. Partisanship certainly is playing a role in this. Bush and the Rep Congress were hardly fiscally responsible either. Dude, they are Republicans.

They are quoting CAP as to how it is silly to be 'protesting taxes' due to the fact that 2009 tax revenues were down. THAT is the stupidity. They are trying to pretend THAT is what the Tea Party is pissed about. For the 100th time... they are not pissed about 2009. They are pissed about the future tax increases that will come from the massive deficit spending they are seeing being projected by the current administration.

Again, I didn't realize you were the TEA Bagger spokesperson. Maybe they should change their name to something that reflects what you claim them are pretending to be concerned about.

Again, perhaps if you actually paid attention to what they were protesting your tiny little mind might be able to grasp it. Protesting higher taxes is what the tea party is about. What you and the idiots at CAP fail to comprehend is that it is NOT about 'hey what did I pay in taxes for 2009'. It is about 'what are we going to have to pay in the FUTURE due to the massive spending'.

But again, idiots like you have fallen for the bullshit spin that the morons at CAP have concocted.

Again... one does not need to be a tea party member or spokesman to understand what they are protesting. A basic fact that yet again is far above the intellectual capacity of a lemming like you to comprehend.

Actually, in the least. You betrayed your conscience with the race-baiting bullshit.

again... wrong... it is the same tired line that the far left uses every time they pretend the tea party isn't "really protesting taxes" but rather they are protesting 'Obama' and since they didn't likewise protest 'Bush' for his poor fiscal policy, they must be doing it because 'Obama is black'

We have heard that countless times on this board alone. Pretending that hasn't occurred is simply partisan hackery on your part.

Dude, they are Republicans.

Dude... while many are indeed Republicans... take note... over half the population supports the Tea Party position. Only a third of the population is Registered Republican. Where is the rest of that support coming from moron?

"Pennywise, pound foolish"

look at what you just stated and what I stated. They are pissed because they do not SEE THE RECAPTURE for the taxpayers.

Look at TARP... this money has supposedly been repaid.... WHERE DID IT GO?

Look at the stimulus... thus far it has only been a stop gap. No long term benefits are going to come from what has been spent thus far. While I agree it was necessary to stop the bleeding, it has been very poorly implemented to this point.

When you add in the projected insane spending that the administration has predicted for the next ten years and the insane health care fiasco crammed down our throats that will also add to the deficit... it just keeps going.

The pound foolish.... is believing that the government is doing anything but steering our ship right along the same path that Greece and many EU nations have already taken and yet thinking that somehow we will avoid their fate.

tea baggers are far right republicans that got thier outfits paid for By Dick Army. And he didn't spend much, though he does bus them around to give the impression it's more than a couple thousand klansman.

ah yes, the standard talking point of the far left. Way to go parrot.

According to Gallup 40% are not Republicans. But I know... we are supposed to ignore that. My bad.

It's the spending, stupid. Even "rednecks" know that the bill comes due eventually.

But, Dick Cheney does not.

The bill is due now! Government debt borrows from funds that could be used for other purposes. It is an unproductive use of capital. It is a drain on resources, now! To the extent that some of the debt is held by foreigners it lessens the immediate load on Americans, but most of the debt is held by Americans (Approximately 50% is held by other govt funds, e.g., the SS fund, and another 20-25% is held by American businesses, individuals and state/local governments).

The problem is partly because people do not realize that deficit spending is a drain on current resources. It's an unseen tax, just like inflation. Also, it leads to the same result as inflation, i.e., a devalued dollar.

I wish they would raise taxes to the point that the deficit is virtually eliminated. Then Americans might realize the full cost of government and do something about it, other than just bitching about their taxes.

I have no time for the bulk of your bullshit, but allow me to respond to this last little tidbit. I was talking about the TEA Baggers, not people who support what they think the TEA Baggers might be protesting. So that's your mistake, not mine. And the TEA Baggers are indeed Republicans.

And why the name-calling? Seriously. What's that all about?

says the man who continually calls the tea party members... tea baggers...

The reason you have no time to respond is because you have not received any talking points that can counter anything I just posted.

You have sold yourself out to your party and are only going to believe what fits into what they told you to believe with regards to the tea party.

Or do you really think the tea party was worried about what they might pay in taxes for 2009?

TEA Bagger was the preferred nomenclature by some in the movement itself at one point. I'm merely following their lead.

I think the TEA Baggers are jackasses is all. Near as I can tell they have no coherent message other than to hate whatever Obama proposes and to believe whatever they want to believe regardless of whether it is grounded in fact. I'm not really interested in trying to figure out what those idiots are protesting and this is driven in large measure by the fact that these same Republican idiots were perfectly happy with increased spending and tax cuts and unfunded liabilities when their party was in power.

more name calling? whats up with that man???????

Near as I can tell they have no coherent message other than to hate whatever Obama proposes and to believe whatever they want to believe regardless of whether it is grounded in fact.

translation: "I refuse to listen to anyone who tells me what their message is. This way I can pretend they are just protesting to protest Obama... because that is what my masters want me to believe. So please don't throw any facts my way as I will simply ignore them and pretend they never existed"

I'm not really interested in trying to figure out what those idiots are protesting

Translation: "See, I really mean it. I am not interested in the truth. I simply want to continue to disparage them because it makes me all warm and happy to please my masters with my obedience."

and this is driven in large measure by the fact that these same Republican idiots were perfectly happy with increased spending and tax cuts and unfunded liabilities when their party was in power.

Translation "I almost forgot to toss out another of the standard talking points from my masters. They would have been PISSED if I had not lobbed one more"
