Feds start new program in Cali to counter sanctuary laws

What the federal attorney's / prosecutor's office in Southern California has started doing is slapping felony criminal charges on many illegal aliens where they can rather than just leave them to get an ICE detainer for deportation. The result is that illegals that can be charged with a federal felony are being charged, will face prosecution, and probably end up with serious prison time followed by deportation rather than just getting deported as they would have before.

Unlike ICE detainers that sanctuary states routinely ignore, they cannot ignore a federal criminal warrant for felony crimes. They have to turn over the individual. So, by being a sanctuary state under this new program, they've doomed the illegals in their jails to face criminal charges, trial, and prison rather than simply being deported. Way to fuck those you sought to shield and help you worthless radical Leftists!

It looks like this program will be expanded nationwide shortly meaning more and more illegals who have criminal backgrounds, are in jail for some crime locally, or who have been previously deported, will be facing new criminal charges and federal prison time. How will those shielding these criminals in sanctuary locations respond? Are they going to be willing to be arrested for ignoring federal criminal arrest warrants?

Which they have already expressed cooperation.

Not with ICE detainers they haven't. That's why this new method was introduced.
  • Continued Cooperation in Criminal Matters:
Despite limiting their cooperation in immigration enforcement, sanctuary cities generally continue to cooperate with federal law enforcement in criminal matters. This might involve sharing information about potential criminals with federal agencies or participating in criminal investigations.

Precisely. So, the US attorney's office is now using that as a means to get detainers on illegals that sanctuary locations would otherwise ignore.
This isn't the win they think it is. There are already cooperations with criminal investigations
It is a win. Now the LA jail system is being forced to turn over illegals, who before would have faced only an ICE detainer and deportation, by charging them criminally. So, these individuals now face potentially long prison sentences at the end of which they're deported rather than just being deported. The stubbornness of sanctuary laws and locations in not helping ICE has backfired by double fucking those who are in the US illegally.

There is still a cooperation with feds when it comes to federal investigations and arrests.

Not a win but good for them to reaffirm the resolute, I guess.

Yay for Trump.
