Donald Trump is sending a stern warning to Corporate America: He will use his bully pulpit to publicly shame companies that dare to raise prices because of tariffs.

After Walmart last week said it would have to jack up some prices because of high costs of the global trade war, Trump on Saturday responded forcefully in a Truth Social post, demanding Walmart reverse its decision.

“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump said. “Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, “EAT THE TARIFFS,” and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

The rebuke was the White House’s third such public reprimand of a big American business that discussed the possibility of raising prices because of the steep cost of tariffs.

Well we all know just how great a businessman Trump is he has bankrupt several companies.
Businesses work on a profit margin and if you raise the cost of the goods you buy to resell to people more then that margin is they have to raise prices to cover that increase and to stay in business.
Walmart should make sure IF they raise their prices that people know it is all because of Trumps tariffs and nothing else.

It's just more proof Trump is not only a Nationalist, but a National Socialist. Sad.

Sadder is that his MAGA minions can't see it.

Add the price of the tariffs and not the increase is because of them and let the American consumer know what is happening.

Tariffs are just another form of tax. Either the company will pay it, or the customers will. Or both, if the company only raises prices 15% and eats the other 15%. Either way, a good lot of what we purchase is going up, by a LOT. This will esp. hurt rural citizens who don't have a lot of choice in where to shop. Walmart's pretty much it. Even if they drive miles to a city, they'll encounter the same price hikes.

Nice going, MAGATards.

I thought Democrats love price controls. :dunno:

Trump : American consumers and American companies do not pay the Tariffs. The foreign countries do
Trump : America will be rich and rolling in money when i put in these place Tariffs.

Also Trump:

Trump : ok so middle class and below citizens should get used to doing with less goods and paying more for them for my tariffs
Trump : companies need to eat the tariffs costs or go broke trying but not tell citizens it is tariffs increasing prices

Magats : oh this is just the Art of the Deal. Trump lied to Americans about who pays the tariffs as a way to accomplish his goal of making all companies come beg to him and offer bribes to be exempt of tariffs, creating a wave of government picked (Trump picked) winners and losers. WIth the losers being small companies and farms, etc who cannot meet with Trump directly and offer various bribes as the tech Ceo's have done.

The shit hasn't hit the fan yet for MAGATs, but it will.

yes, telling Americans 'you need to do with less while being prepared to pay more... for the good of the country'...

While at the same time pushing that your new private jets ordered and being built are just not coming fast enough, so i need a new gifted interim private jet, which will then become my own personal one...

Seems to be a bit of mixed messaging...
