More important is that the cost to renovate the plane not only costs American taxpayers but it will be less capable than the replacement planes being built now.
This is simply Trump's way of having American taxpayers foot the bill for a luxury jet. Is there any doubt it will have a lot of gold plated crap inside of it like his penthouse at Trump Tower?

I understand the value to citizens of this country for new plane for the POTUS - this one and future ones to use. that is a major cost that we don't need to carry - wow - thank you!!!
but explain how the first lady receiving a diamond is a benefit to me or other citizens like me. That is not a cost as a citizen I feel obligated to share the burden for - that is pure vanity to her - a gift only for her and future first ladies to enjoy
