Seems we've been existing as a free nation for many years, and we've always had closed and sovereign borders. I'm not positive, but I am pretty sure Bush didn't start this practice, it's been around for the last couple of centuries.
While I can appreciate your desire to have complete and total freedom for all people from anywhere, to do anything they please... it is an untenable goal. The only way such a societal system would ever work, is if we could all be brainwashed into being a peace-loving hippie like you.... then, there would always be the occasional misfit who wanted to steal your dope or old lady, and you wouldn't like that, so someone would still have to enforce the law.
What needs to happen is, you need to put down the bong and realize we live in a diverse nation of 350 million, and no two people think exactly alike. We have laws, we have rules, and they must be followed and obeyed to keep our civilization from collapsing in anarchy and chaos. Because we are a land of opportunity and freedom, capitalism and free enterprise, we can afford to take care of our needy and indigent, but we can't afford to extend that to the entire world without restriction or limitation. I wish we could... we can't!
