Jobs up 290,000

I belive he is a Budhist, and not just because it sounds cool. He does seem to have a bias against liberalism and Democrats such that it affects his rational when discussing politics.

Buddhists are good and intelligent people. Don't forget that. :pke:

Not all Buddhists are good or intelligent, I am sure of that.

Damo strikes me as good and intelligent, he simply has a huge bias and blind spot when it comes to the evils of many of those who support the belifes he clings to.

agreed, though I was pissed about tarp because I see it as subsidized Hamptons sailing yatch not economic salvation. A better stimulus would have been give every citizen a $20,000 voucher usefull for credit towards a house or car purchase.

and to relieve some debt...tarp basically gave profits to the idiots that got us into this mess, however, it seemed to have worked, but i believe if some our debt were forgiven, say government student loans and money in our pocket, the economy would have picked up sooner

that's all I'm saying, save mainstreet and fuck wall street. There is no way, Zero that wall street wouldn't have survived had we done like china. Give each person a $20,000 voucher. WS would have been kissing some butt to get business.

wait a minute...bush was still being blamed for the economy (bad) as of this year...so...tell me onceler...when did the magic line get crossed where bush is no longer responsible for the economy? you seem to support the notion that bush can be responsible so long as the economy is bad, yet as soon as it starts to improve, bush is magically no longer responsible

how is that not hackery?

Have you seen the rise in the national debt since Obama took office in only a short time? He's going to surpass Bush by a wide margin.

which I agree with totally and so do most democrats. Why is it not 1, republican or tea bagger has mentioned cutting defense spending. It's 20% of the budget or so and we have hundreds of thousand of soldiers defending WWII cities a complete defense lobby theft from the american people.

Yes, there are some things that could be cut in the defense spending as well as every department in our government. Moody's has warned us of our wild spending spree. Just wait until the costs of the health care hits us. It's not a pretty picture.

I and many others have proposed MASSIVE defense spending cuts.

That's how you'd reward our service people? With a layoff?

What about benefits for veterans?

What happen economically to a town when a base closes?

You're new so I'll explain this delicately.
I AM a vet. Defense spending is not related to veteran spending. Second those towns won't be going anywhere unless the base itself goes. Third, the vast majority of defense spending does not go to service members. It's spend on R&D for weapon systems we don't use. It's spent on waste. It's spent on covering damages we do to private property.

Well, I am fairly sure about the impact of bases closing anyway.

You could look some information on the BRAC process, see CRS Report RL32216, Military Base Closures: Implementing the 2005 Round, by David E. Lockwood; and CRS Report RL33766, Military Base Closures and Realignment: Status of the 2005 Implementation Plan, by Kristine E. Blackwell.

actually, the counter point is that unemployment rate went to 9.9%.

It is funny how the roles have reversed though. When Bush was in office, even when jobs rose 300k, all we heard about was how that was not enough to keep up with new workers entering the market. Now, 290k is 'great news'. :)

As for the counter point above, the rise in the unemployment rate is actually a positive sign. It means more people who had given up looking are coming back into the job search. Translated... that means people's expectations on the economy are improving slightly.

The jobs numbers were certainly stronger than expected, that is indeed good news... even without the census jobs, the number was strong (for this economy). It will be interesting to see next months numbers. Will the fears in Europe cause employers to pull back on hiring?

Yes, and apparently, all those people who were giving up looking for a job or falling off the unemployment roles, SUDDENLY ALL FOUND JOBS under Obama! ...Miraculous indeed!

No one is talking about closing bases stateside. Overseas is another matter.
