Mt Rainier was named after Rear Admiral Peter Rainier, again by Capt. Vancouver. The indians called that mountain Mt Tahoma (the origin of the City of Tacoma. It meant 'Mother of the Waters'. Several important rivers flow from it's snowpack.
The Food Circus was originally the Armory building (built in 1939). I was modernized and retasked as the Food Circus and a unique 'Bubblator' (a bubble shaped elevator) was installed. It was removed before you came to Ft Lewis.
The Space Needle was built for the Seattle World's fair in 1961-1962, also known as the Century 21 exposition. It has two main decks at the top, an upper observation deck, and below that a restaurant with floor that slowly rotates to afford each diner a view in every direction as they eat.
The middle deck about halfway up is also a restaurant, but does not have a rotating floor. Each New Years and Independance day, the building is rigged by a local pyro crew with a fireworks display. I've never worked that show, but instead work the Independance day show at the City of Snoqualmie. We set up at the top of a hill in the town park. Both the town and the local Snoqualmie tribe help fund that show. The Snoquamie tribe is part of the Tulalip confederation located further north.
Although usually hidden beneath the murk, when the Sun finally does come out, it's absolutely stunning country.
