Equal right means that they have the same standards applied to all. A claim that they are antisemitic is not equality on the part of the government. It is a clear violation of the equal rights since they are being denied without due process.

Congress almost always puts parameters on how money is doled out. And the President cannot use that funding based on free speech. Unconstitutional.
 
Supporting higher education has always been seen as important and beneficial to the country. Trump sees it as a fount of pro-right, Trumpian training. It is another part of America, he thinks, he should control. Every agency that Trump guts, he thinks he gets the power they lose. His mission is to remove any training, education and systems that are not 100 percent pro-Daffy all the time.

Precisely. If Harvard wants money from the federal government, it has to accept the strings that come with that money. For example, Conservative Hillsdale College takes no federal or state money and therefore doesn't have the strings that go with that attached.

Harvard could do likewise and stop taking federal and state money and become a true private entity that would mean it doesn't have to deal with the strings attached to government funding. But Harvard wants it both ways in their favor. They want the funding and they don't want the strings. They're going to get screwed taking up that fight.

As usual Vercua you are wrong. Remember when Obama threatened to withhold funding to the state of Arizona because they were going to enforce immigration laws that Obama wouldn't? Oh yeah, you were all for that.

Remember when the federal government told the state of Louisiana that they wouldn't get any highway funds if they didn't raise the drinking age to 21? Yeah, that happened.

The courts have supported this kind of behavior for a long time because it is simple, these institutions don't have a RIGHT to this money. They can choose not to accept it. If the government makes accepting it contingent on certain behaviors then that is their choice.

Absent that the government has zero right to tell Harvard how to handle its affairs. But, if Harvard wants the money and the government makes accepting the money contingent on certain behaviors then that is legal and upheld by precedent. You do know what precedent is don't you Vercua?

I'd rather that the Federal government pass the money they give to the Ivy league colleges around to smaller colleges to give average kids a break.

I don't disagree but I don't believe the govt should be in the business of providing colleges and universities with any money. They should operate like every other business. Provide people with a quality product at a good price and people will buy it.

Your examples do not violate the first amendment. Your example examples are of different funding mechanisms provided by Congress. Your simplistic view is incorrect, as usual.

I think the government should fund a quality online university that is free as long as you maintain a 3.0 average and are American citizens.. That way anyone can go to college no matter where they live inside of the US. Live in a small Montana town? Can't afford college. No Problem. All other Colleges and Universities that accept student loan money have to accept the on-line government University's credits for the first two years. The government has an interst in an educated population to help us compete with other countries.

Do you happen to know what the proficiency levels of students now coming out of high school? We already pay for elementary, middle and high school and are kids learning? The California Learning Resource Network says the average reading level of high school grads is around 7.5-8.5 grade level. Until they can show better success I don't think they deserve another penny.

Most of the funds go to students, and the research they, and other Universities do, is invaluable to the U.S., discoveries aren’t made in some think tank in Washington
