But same sex marriage would destroy the institution

The straw man is that I am discussing my faith, and you are discussing certain aspects of organized the two organized religions that do not coincide.

Again, the point was they are different religions. I have repeated this through out. Your faith has nothing to do with it. I just tried to make it relevant to you.

You took exception and have maintained that there is no real difference between Catholicism and Mormonism. If you accept the point that there is a difference then why are you still arguing it? Why are you still attempting to prove how much you share in common with them. They are different religions based on different teachings and interpretations of the bible. To pretend otherwise is absurd.

And no those are not the major tenets of Mormonism. That is just some fluff piece filled with generalized nonsense. The important parts of Mormonism come from the story of Joseph Smith and Moroni... dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

Actually, since I was discussing my faith when you decided to argue, that is exactly what we are talking about, in spite of your futile attempts at straw man.

LOL So the Mormon web site (mormon.org) doesn't know what they are talking about. But you do. :)

In fact, I believe, blacks continue to suffer more in state discrimination than homosexuals and maybe more from discrimination of other citizens, except in marriage. That does not make the discrimination against gays on marriage okay either.

But as the chronology of the posts shows, it is YOU who has time and again tried to defend the erroneous talking point by some gay advocates that their civil rights struggle is the same as black folk. As I've proven time and again, that is a biological, historical, factual mistatement.

Rather than just concede these small points, which in no way would destroy the gay rights movement, you've stubbornly engaged in repetitive series of convoluted logic, lies, distortions and denials in regards to what I wrote.

Grow up, String....admitting you're wrong on one small point won't kill you or the gay rights movement...it'll just keep things honest.

Carry on.

I don't care if two men or two women want to get married, as it doesn't affect me in any way. Furthermore, the notion that it would somehow harm the institution of straight marriage is laughable, especially considering the 55%+ divorce rate.

It obviously effects you that homosexuals can't marry, otherwise, you wouldn't have dug up this old thread and posted your sentiments again for the gazillionth time. That's a really odd way to make people think you don't care.... you obviously care a great deal.

The argument is not that it will "harm the institute of marriage" and it never has been. That is a gross mis-characterization of what the real complaint is. This has nothing to do with the number of divorces or how many unhappy marriages there are... What is harmed by allowing traditional marriage to be destroyed, is an irreversible erosion of the traditional family, and all that 'family' means to our culture and society. Gay Marriage undermines what many believe to be the cornerstone of a moral and decent society. Not to mention the fact that deeply religious people view marriage as sacred and a sanctified event with significant religious importance to the Church and the members of the Church. To make a mockery and sham of their religious traditions, is very possibly unconstitutional, but unethical and immoral at least.

The problem is easily fixed.... Civil Unions. Remove "marriages" from purview of the government completely, and do generic CU contracts, issued to any two consenting adults, regardless of what sort of relationship they have. Makes the religious folk happy, they can keep traditional marriage, makes the gay folk happy, they get all the marital benefits they wanted, it doesn't establish law based on sexuality or preferences, and it doesn't trash religion or religious expression. AND it protects the values of 'family' by keeping traditional marriages (ordained by the church only) intact.

But..... you'd rather argue pointlessly about this another few decades, I guess?

That's not the case at all, actually. I was curious which threads had the most replies. This thread was in the top ten, so I opened it. Then I noticed Taichi's silly response and commented on it. After that, I decided to put in my two cents.

It is quite pathetic that I have to explain myself, though.

I'd be fine with replacing civil marriage with civil unions across the board, at which point marriage would be strictly a religious institution. Problem solved.

LOL, no, that won't be necessary. Gay marriage will be the law of the land much sooner than that. Sorry to disappoint you.

You're partially right... YOU are quite pathetic!

Well, we can't ever have that as long as activist like you are yammering for Gay Marriage. The longer you put up that fight, the longer it will be before the problem can be solved reasonably, where all sides can claim victory, and everyone gets what they want. You'd think if you really CARED about homosexual couples, you'd just shut up about changing traditional marriage, and be content with what I suggested, but you obviously have some other motives.

Dream on fucktard... even in the MOST liberal states, it fails over and over again, by overwhelming margins. Even the extreme liberal Obama doesn't support Gay Marriage. So you can live in some delusional gay fantasy world where this is going to happen someday, or you can join the rest of us here in the real world, and help support a viable solution to the problem. It's totally up to you.

Marriage is a religious institution.

The federal government shouldn't be envolved with it at all.

Well now isn't that the pot calling the kettle black...

I'm hardly an activist. You won't find me protesting on the steps of the capitol for gay rights; but on the other hand, you won't find me protesting against it, either.

*Shrugs*

Whatever makes you feel better, Dixie.
