Their economic future is still primarily in their hands and Obama has helped them to realize that. He gives them reason to believe their hard work will be rewarded. Isn't it the reverse-racism crybabies that talk most about how welfare fosters dependency. Obama's example is fostering the reverse of that. Why wouldn't you see that as a good thing.
Note: I am opposed to affirmative action (just not a major priority for me as its affects are very small and it will fade out on it's own). I also agree that welfare programs can foster dependency.

No you are whiny baby because you overplay the reach of AA. Has it even had any impact on you or anyone you know? I don't support it but its effects are small and it will fade on its own. There are far greater injustices in our nation that demand our attention.

The funny thing is many blacks will tell you the biggest beneficiary of affirmative action is white women.
However unless you are one of those people (and they have posted on this board) who believe the U.S.'s best days are behind us and we heading to be a third world country to see this type of hope in black youth for the future is very exciting and encouraging.
Yeah, i worry about where government meddling in the economy will lead, but the march for freedom has made great strides in other areas, i.e., civil rights. We're not there yet. Someday I hope we dump AA and refrain from new policies like it as well as making advances on more pressing concerns. But we are definitely better off on this front than we were in the "good ol' days."
Obama is a shining example of that progress. If only in consideration of that, I am glad we elected him. That is not to say I am glad we elected him when weighed against other factors.
This brings an irony to mind. Many attempt to paint all critics of Obama as racists (taichi). IMO, the fact that Obama is black might be the best feature of his Presidency. This poll is why.

I went to a heavily minority high school in Oakland. And even though it was private with many black and other minority students coming from middle class families there was still that underlying current among many black students that trying to do well in class was 'trying to act white'.
I hope an argument young black kids today can respond with if hit with that type of peer pressure is I'm going to be Obama or I'm going to be like Obama or Obama did it f u.
That's what I really see as a positive out of him.

Of course it's effected me. All hr departments have to think twice before hiring a white male. Any other can sue them if they don't get hired. Plus old men like the ability to keep out younger male competitors as they build their little harems inside the still quite patriarchal system.
HR people are also under pressure to use the boss's friends recruiting agency, who is under high pressure to use foreigner laborers who are kept like indentured servants. Between anti white male discrimination and anti-american discrimination in general, an entire generation of men is having their lives stolen away by politically correct revenge reverse racism.
Does the AA monster live in your closet? You are delusional. AA is not nearly that pervasive and you prove you are little more than a crybaby by insisting that it is in the face of reality.
I have never felt that my race has played a factor in my hiring or firing. When I was young, I once thought I may have been let go due to my lack of religion. But, with time I am more inclined to believe it was probably just my own fault.
The gremlins are not jinxing you, loser. It's most likely your fault that you suck. Take your lumps and make a plan for improvement. You are not just a fart in the wind. You enjoy considerable power over your own life. If you want to take up a loser mentality and blame it on anything else, okay.... But, that path is gonna lead to a bad ending for you.

It's all pervasive. It's a codified policy of racial/gender discrimination against white men.
Are you on recording as saying that affirmative action and other quota systems designed to discriminate against white men have no impact? That's delusional.

There are far worse injustices in this nation than AA. You are an idiot who seems to believe it is involved in every hiring decision. It is not even considered in most and in the few jobs where it is it does not completely decide who is hired. Its impact is very small and it's probably going to go away without much of a fight. When it comes to race issues I am far more concerned about the bigger problems, e.g., the discrimination inherent in the War on Drugs.

The impact is not small. NO amount of civil right violation is justifiable especially when it's codified into nearly all institutions. Businesses, universities etc. All our institutions discriminate against white males. Your defense of it is morally repulsive. You should be ashamed for excusing racial discrimination.
