Dem reaction to Schumer is misguided

It shows that they care more about "beating" Trump than about the American people.

A shutdown would have hurt a LOT of people. I haven't heard any Dems outside of Schumer talk about that. It seems to many like their only concern is trying to best Trump, instead of looking out for the interests of regular people.

They need to pick their battles. The shutdown fight was not the battle to choose. Schumer was 100% right, and it's kind of dismaying that more Dems didn't agree.

The Dems wanted him to stand up to Trump's lawlessness. Trump will keep pushing until he is stopped. The American experiment is worth fighting for.

That wasn't the battle to choose. Dems need to learn where to fight.

Trump would have turned that on Dems on a dime. And he would have been able to blame all of HIS economic failures on the "shutdown" Dems created.

It would have been a gift to Trump.

Schumer made the correct, pragmatic decision.

The Dems need to learn to fight. They should fight everything. I understood his thinking. I disagreed with his decision.
Fight how? A .22 behind the ear? Rocks? Schumer made the most practical choice between two very bad choices. Elections have consequences. Instead of eating their own, the Democrats should figure out not only how to win in 2026 but also 2028.

I hate it when you make me agree with you. Schumer was right. A shutdown would have been blamed on the Democrats and would have hurt a lot of people. Schumer major blunder is letting the Dems to vote in a block in the House against the CR then voting for it in the Senate. Now Republicans can point at House Dems and accuse them of trying to shut the government down and the Dems got ZERO for it.

Disagreed. While the Democrats are a hot mess, the fact remains the CR passed and the government didn't shut down. Now, any problems fall into the lap of the Party of Trump. Sure, they'll "take no responsibility" and point fingers at Democrats, but results count. It's the Republicans who will own this.

So what happens in September when they do it again, albeit with little nuggets added to the CR?

It's one thing at a time. On this particular one, it would have hurt Democrats.

The economy isn't great right now. The market has had a couple of nice days, but overall, it is likely to keep in bear territory for awhile, and the next jobs report will likely not be good, all while consumer confidence is plummeting. If there was a shutdown, we know what would have happened. Trump can out-bluster the entire Dem party if he wants to, and control the narrative - and he would have blamed Dems for all of the economic ills HE created, and probably done so effectively.

Since Trump got elected, Dems have been unable to get out of their own way. They need to find their identity as a party before taking on something like a shutdown.

I understand Schumer's reasoning, and he's quite possibly correct that trump WANTS a shutdown so he gets full control over what does and doesn't get funded.

Taking that out of the equation, you assume that Republicans wouldn't come to the table with a more sensible CR if Dems. stood their ground?

If this is about messaging...the cuts proposed by Republicans cannot be sold the the majority of the public.

If Democrats were picking some battles instead of sitting on their hands the reactions might have been kinder.

The Democratic Party is identifiable as radical, far left, Socialist/Marxist/Communist loons.

Their far left ideology was totally rejected last November by the American people.

They should apologize to the hard working American people and self-deport.

These loons are opposing the deportation of violent illegal criminal child rapists and drug gangs and murderers.

They are opposing the attempt to stop waste, fraud, and abuse in government.

They are firebombing Tesla dealerships and Tesla cars.

They support Hamas, a terrorist group, on American campuses and in the streets,

They oppose President Trump’s attempts to level the playing field with reciprocal tariffs.

They oppose everything that our president is trying to do to help hard working Americans.

Anti-American? Yes.

The (D)s played the shutdown game like pros. If they had balked and shut the govt. down, they would have been blamed either fairly or not. Now the coming rise in inflation, increase in unemployment claims, and probably recession will fall squarely where the blame belongs -- on #Pres.Musk and his #FatFascistFelon puppet.

If the argument is that messaging is better by Republicans, what makes you think that they won't twist all of these issues? The bimbo press secretary is already trotting out the 'Biden left trump a mess' nonsense.

They kicked the can until Sept.. Perhaps a better outcome, but Schumer still has to go. I don't believe anyone that old should still sit in the Senate. What Feinstein did in the House was an absolute disgrace.
