Actually, the Irish are doing very well financially. Like 50% richer per capita than the USA, but without the extreme poverty of the USA. It has a pleasant culture, with very walkable cities. It has a nice mix of traditional family values with accepting liberal values.(Links below)

I once had a college professor who was convinced that there is an impulse within human nature to "worship" other people as a progression of aspiration. A lot of people idolize their parents or another relative or a teacher or a neighbor, but at some point, they want to "be something more" and become transfixed by people they perceive as "having more". Without a royal family in the US, this professor claimed that Americans -- by natural necessity -- created a different class of royalty: Athletes, actors, musicians, etc.

Trump is what poor people imagine rich people are. They think he is silly and cute and funny and wealthy and successful, but he's actually the biggest joke on the face of the planet. I would suicide myself before I had to live a day as Trump. As he dismantles American democracy and finishes installing his oligarchy, I say we are getting what we deserve. Poor, stupid people -- which describes a majority of Americans -- want Trump and Musk and the rest of their incapable, incompetent, illiterate group of donkey fuckers to rule them.
