Basically, 95% + of what's discussed here isn't from "firsthand knowledge." If you read articles and the like, watch a video on something, those aren't firsthand knowledge now, are they? I can coherently discuss ancient history based on written accounts. Discussing current events is no different.
What counts is looking at something from multiple angles and using multiple accounts to get the best idea of what happened regarding an event.
If we relied solely on firsthand knowledge, we as a race and civilization would go nowhere.
