- The House Judiciary Committee can investigate allegations of misconduct or crimes by federal judges. If they find sufficient evidence, they can recommend impeachment.
- If the Committee decides to move forward, they draft articles of impeachment. These are formal charges specifying the reasons for impeachment, such as treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
- The Committee votes on whether to send these articles to the full House of Representatives.
- House Vote: If the articles are approved by the Committee, they go to the full House for a vote. A simple majority is needed to impeach, meaning more than half of the members must vote in favor.
- If the House votes to impeach, the process moves to the Senate, where a trial is held. Here, a two-thirds majority is required to convict and remove the judge from office.
