Inventory tax is only in some red states. It is a way of having a hidden tax. In Texas it is sometimes called a "Black tax", because Republicans often give white dominated businesses a way to defer from the tax.
People will tell you the taxes are lower in red states, but often there are hidden taxes that will get you in the end.

Inventory tax is charged in Washington, a so-called 'blue' State. It seems it's legislature and governor no longer honor the Constitution of the United States or the Constitution of the State of Washington. Washington is ceasing to be a State at all. Still a lot of supporters of the Union on the dry side though.

Right now trump is threatening a tax war in defense of corporate tax havens. Yes, he is threatening any country that places top up taxes on huge multinational corporations who refuse to pay American taxes, while taking benefits from America.
To setup a corporate tax haven like this, you need to spend about $100 million a year. So the taxes they are avoiding paying is more than a $100 million a year. Imagine the little guys out there who do not have $100 million a year, and have to just pay their taxes.
