Fascist Felonious Trump has indeed discussed the concept of abolishing the federal income tax.

Felonious Trump has expressed interest in using tariffs to fund government operations, thereby potentially eliminating the need for federal income tax.

  • CNN Politics reported in late October 2024 that Felonious Trump talked about ending the federal income tax, harking back to a time when the U.S. relied on tariffs alone for federal revenue.
  • Fascist Felonious Trump suggested a return to a system where tariffs could replace income taxes, although some noted this would require a significant increase in tariffs, potentially leading to higher prices for consumers and possibly not generating enough revenue to cover current government expenses.
  • The complexity of shifting from an income tax to a tariff-based system could involve significant legislative and economic challenges, including how to handle the transition, the impact on trade, and the potential for increased costs for consumers.

Why didn't you vote, @christiefan915?
I voted no because I don't trust Plan B. Even grok isn't highly positive about it.

"In the U.S., eliminating income tax would require a dramatic restructuring of the tax system and possibly the economy. It would necessitate either a very high increase in other taxes, a significant reduction in government services, or both. There would also be implications for income inequality if the tax burden shifted to consumption or property.

Thus, while theoretically possible, the practical and political challenges make it highly complex. The transition would need careful planning to avoid economic disruption, maintain government functionality, and ensure equitable revenue distribution."

At this point, given the mandated federal spending, 90% of which, give or take, is on social-welfare programs, along with the current national debt, it'd be impossible to eliminate federal income tax. It possibly should be eliminated, or more appropriately, in times of peace limited to something like 10 to 15% of the GDP at most with a balanced budget, but the spendaholics in Dirty City would never go for that.

It has long been a fact.

That's from 2019.

What if I told you that DOGE aims to pare discretionary spending, redundant government positions are slated for elimination, and Boomers are checking out every day in droves to reduce entitlement spending?

It hasn't changed and if anything has gotten worse. Mandatory programs are the bulk of the federal budget. Nearly 2 out of 3 dollars the federal government is spending is on mandatory programs that are almost entirely social-welfare in nature. All you have to do is look at the taxes taken out of a paycheck from some employer where FICA is as much or greater than the income tax paid. FICA is to cover those mandatory program's costs.

DOGE can't do shit about mandatory spending. It might reduce it by a couple of percent but that's not going away anytime soon. That's the problem today. The federal government is going down the same disastrous path Europe and Central and South America already have. Socialism is unaffordable on a mass scale.

Didn't read what I said?

It'd be nice, but to undo those mandatory spending programs almost uniformly requires an act of Congress and signing it into law, and that's just not going to happen.

Never say never, somebody once said.

I was reliably informed by "experts" that Trump would never be POTUS.

Twice.

50% of JPP has now voted for abolishing the federal income tax.

@Callinectes wants to pay!

It's not a matter of WANTING to pay taxes, (I freakin' hate the IRS). It's just that reality slapped me upside the head a long time ago. The damn government is far too large and expensive. The country is circling the drain, I don't know if Trump can save it, I just hope he can delay the inevitable until I go home to Jesus.

Get back to work and pay your taxes! I need my Soc. Sec. and my military and state pensions. I seriously doubt tariffs alone can cover this kind of retirement planning.
