Federal Workers Told to Inform on Colleagues

I don't doubt they were fired. If you think it was a wrongful dismissal, say so, and state your reasons for so doing.

Now, care to explain where you got the idea that this conceit of yours below was accurate?

That is the way it use to be but now under Trump things are changing. looks like they can be fired for NO reason at all.

Immigration judges do not serve at the president's pleasure in the same direct manner as some political appointees. Here's a breakdown of their appointment and tenure:

  • Appointment: Immigration judges are appointed by the Attorney General of the United States, not directly by the President. They are part of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), which is within the Department of Justice.
  • Tenure: Immigration judges do not have life tenure like federal Article III judges but do have what is often referred to as "career tenure." This means they are not at-will employees but are subject to a process for discipline or removal.
  • Removal: While the Attorney General has the authority to appoint, reassign, discipline, or remove immigration judges, this is typically done through established procedures rather than at the whim of the president or even directly at the whim of the Attorney General. There are protections in place to ensure due process and merit-based decisions.
  • Political Influence: Although the administration can influence immigration policy and thereby indirectly affect the decisions and priorities of immigration judges, the judges themselves are expected to make legal decisions based on law and precedent. However, changes in administration can lead to shifts in policy guidance and enforcement priorities which judges must consider.

Therefore, while immigration judges operate within the executive branch and their roles can be influenced by presidential policies through the Attorney General, they do not serve directly "at the president's pleasure." This setup aims to provide some level of independence to ensure impartiality in adjudicating immigration cases.
