The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has a complex history. While it was passed by Congress in 1972 and sent to the states for ratification, it officially fell short of the required number of state ratifications by the original deadline extended to 1982. In 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to remove the deadline for ratification, but it did not pass in the Senate.

Yeah, ummm, Bocephus, keep more up to date. The whole ratification deadline has been discussed ad nauseam.

But I wholly understand why women's equal rights threatens incels like you.

I didn't realize enough State legislatures have passed the amendment to qualify. The complaints about missing the deadline seem pretty arbitrary.

Yeah finally they got the last of the 3/4 of states to ratify. But the deadline was long past. The argument is that the Madison Amendment didn't get passed for something like 207 years after it was initially introduced. But since the 1960's Congress has used deadlines. The question remains whether the deadline was controlling or not.

A lot of folks felt the deadline was not valid and could be ignored. Those that don't want the ERA are going to fight that the deadline was real.
