Bernie is not responding to the full claim.

Elon and Vivek both acknowledged that the current H-1B system is broken and needs to be fixed so it isn’t abused in the way Bernie describes.

They’ve also said it needs to be used to recruit top engineers.

These two claims are compatible.

Vivek: https://x.com/vivekgramaswamy/status/1703525356060221671?s=46…

This is the second time in two weeks he’s done this. He did the same thing when Elon helped tank the 1500 page spending bill.

It’s just another form of identity politics. Instead of focusing channeling racial hostility, it’s channeling class hostility. “Billionaires are evil”. It’s divisive.

Don’t fall for it. ~

Who would have guessed it?

Bernie was wrong.

H-1B workers are actually highly-paid, with median earnings around the 90th percentile wage for Americans in general.

And there's no evidence that they suppress native wages.

Bernie Sanders:
The main function of the H-1B visa program is not to hire "the best and the brightest," but rather to replace good-paying American jobs with low wage indentured servants from abroad.
This is exactly my problem with the current H-1B program. It is not mostly the low wages. The low wages are bad, but time would solve that if it were not for the huge problem: the indentured servant nature of the program. Keeping them as slaves, unable to get better salaries means that it drives down everybody's wages, and everybody's productivity. It destroys the economic force for growth.

You are comparing them to all jobs, including kids flipping burgers, and delivery drivers who work 4 hours a week.

Elon Musk has been vocal about defending the H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire foreign workers in specialized occupations. His stance has drawn criticism from some of Trump's supporters who oppose the visa program, viewing it as detrimental to American workers. This conflict was notably highlighted when Musk vowed to "go to war" to defend the program.

Donald Trump has expressed support for the H-1B visa program, stating that he has "always liked the visas" and used them extensively at his properties. This stance suggests alignment with Musk's position.
