Seton Hall to give all new students an Ipad

The iPad: coming to a university near you.

(Credit: Apple) It hasn't even launched yet and already Apple's iPad is catching the eye of colleges.

Pennsylvania-based Seton Hill University, which has an enrollment of about 2,100, announced on Tuesday that starting fall semester, all full-time students will receive an iPad tablet device in an effort to boost learning ability and technical know-how.

"The iPad initiative kicks off the university's Griffin Technology Advantage Program," the school wrote on its iPad page. "This new program provides students with the best in technology and collaborative learning tools, ensuring that Seton Hill students will be uniquely suited to whatever careers they choose--even those that have not yet been created."

Seton Hill's Griffin Technology Advantage Program, which starts in the fall, ensures that each student will receive the iPad, as well as a 13-inch MacBook. Students can use the devices in class and for personal use. The university even plans to replace the laptop with a new one every two years. The products are owned by the students, which means they can take them after graduation.

Seton Hill believes that, with the help of both a laptop and the iPad, it can create a "just-in-time learning environment" that enhances student learning and hopefully helps them learn "technological skills [they will] need in the 21st century workforce."

The university didn't say how it plans to use the iPad, but it's worth noting that it made the decision prior to its launch.

It isn't hard to see where we are going in regards to what businesses use. Unless they plan on all the students becoming real estate agents businesses use Microsoft.
 
yes yes grasshopper, and once buggywhips were dominant in manufacturing. Grasshopper you as an apple shareholder are beyond white belt, yet you doubted the iphone. It is now THE dominant mobile internet platform. You can't pass your blackbelt unless you have the vision to see the coming dominance of the Ipad. Real Estate Agents showing house by house. Doctors on round (who didn't see that), warehousing shiping recieving, sales reps I'll stop my second degree belt needs tightening.

Grasshopper, despite what the Iphone sales have done, Apple's share of the computer market dropped in 2009, from 8% of the market to 7.4% of the market.

Yep, a whopping 7.4% of the market. Thats what I would love to see my kids base their education on. lol

some kids are meant to be mediocre, top educators use apple. My kids are used to being champions, sorry no suckass MS for them Mac book's and Iphones soon to be Ipads.

I'll let ya'll know how bad they suck when ups drops mine saturday.

The education sector is one of the places that Apple holds a lion's share of the market.

Damo didn't say that they sucked. Damo just remarked that if Seton Hall wants the students to have marketable skills, they should learn MS systems.

Apple computers are far more intuitive. But MS still owns the majority of the market.

I think like I am happy. I prefer that to the constant search for wealth, which is self-defeating in many ways.

Damo mentioned that the MS based systems would be better for the students to learn marketable skills. You disagreed and tried to make the claim that the IPhone sales is a reason to learn to use Apple computers. My link pointed out the obvious error of your ways.

I do not think Apple makes lousy computers. I just think you are wrong to equate IPhone's success with the future of the computer industry.

Like I said you don't think like the rich, you twisted what I said to fit your limited mind.
I said he doubted me on the Iphone as most here did, and very wrong they were as the moble internet is DOMINATED by the iphone.
My kids are champions becuase they think like winners, why am I so good at investing despite my whisky Tango upbringing. VISION!!!

No, you compared the MS based systems to buggy whips. I did not twist anything.

My mind is far from limited. In fact, yours is limited by the incessant need to put everything into dollar values. Mine is not.

I am educated and have a comfortable life. But the point of my life is far different from yours.

This is like saying. "Once the automobile was the dominant tool to drive, but now we have the bicycle! It might be bigger and uglier than your old bicycle, and you can't use the most important features that your old bicycle already has, but we'll give you a free one when you go to college and that makes bicycles the future!"
