Never heard of this guy but it’s an interesting schtick. Just as there are black, Jewish and LatinX conservatives there can also be liberal rednecks.

There are plenty of liberal southern "rednecks".

The only people who don't know that, are urbanites from the rest of the country who've never known or associated with southerners and just assume the south is full of right-wing trumper yee-haws and yay-hoos.

I love the South. My grandfather is from Charleston and was the ultimate southern gentlemen. Classiest guy you could hope to meet.

But yes, living in San Francisco the predominant view is basically what you laid out. Just as there are those who think nothing good happens in cities, people here think similar about the South.

But since there has been some what of a shift of the (white) working class from Democrats to Republicans, the rhetoric towards those types seems to have shifted much more negatively

My big regret when living in Boston was not traveling to more areas in NE. But no, I’ve only been to Boston and NYC. Are saying they have red neck types in the surrounding areas?

Some time ago there was a woman I knew from a message board for a few years. She was from the Chicago area but had moved to upstate NY with her husband. Not sure which town she lived near, but it was out in the country. Some of the things she told us about her rural upstate NY neighbors was, to say the least, not flattering.

Four wheeler pick-up trucks with loud mufflers roaring around, pitbulls chained in the front yard barking at all hours, loud music, obnoxious demeanors, Confederate flags on everything, including hanging in the windows as curtains, etc, etc.

Heavy drinking and drug use.

The epitome of the kind of "white trash" normally associated with the south, basically.

When they finally had enough and moved back to Illinois, she couldn't have been happier.

Interesting. Even in California, when you get away from the coasts, you have some more rural areas and there’s an element of what you described above (including large Hispanic populations which wouldn’t qualify as rednecks but aren’t what you think of as “sophisticated Californians”)

I think a lot of "rural types" are the same everywhere.

South, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Northeast....

Country people are country people and lacking in certain civilities and refinements.

But even in a place like S.F., where you definitely have your well educated and more sophisticated and cultured folks, there’s still an element of working class, poverty and ruffian types.

Of course that's certainly true.

And in the country you have cultured, well mannered, educated people too.

But I think that in general, the stereotypes do tend to apply more often than not.

It's interesting that this dumbfuck doesn't know that Puerto Ricans living on Puerto Rico cannot vote in federal elections. Sure, those that emigrate to the US proper and are not in a US territory can vote, but those living in the territory of Puerto Rico cannot vote in US elections.

So, his "100% accurate assessment is really more like 100% asshole...
