Palin: I sneaked to Canada for healthcare

Sarah Palin's family used to "hustle" across the Canadian border to get healthcare, the former Alaska governor said this weekend.

In a speech in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Palin called it "ironic" that while growing up in a small Alaskan town near the Canadian border, her family used to sneak across the border to take advantage of the Canadian healthcare system.

"We used to hustle over the border for healthcare we received in Canada," she said, according to Medicine Hat News (via Dave Weigel.) "And I think now, 'Isn't that ironic?' "

It's ironic, of course, because Palin and other Republicans have argued that Democratic healthcare reform will put the U.S. on the path toward Canada's "socialized" healthcare system.

Interesting, it was good enough for her family! I know other conservatives who do this!

Why did her family take her? I am not pining it on her... I belive however it illistrates the poor nature of our system and the strength of there system, that parents would choose Canada!
 
Again, when exactly did Single Payer begin in Canada? She was six when her family moved from that border town and they no longer did this.

Methinks your "gotcha" will turn on you if you are not careful.

It was not really a gotcha.... You may have a point about when Canada started single payer, Id have to check.

Still when she was 6 our system was so bad that her family did it!

how old was she jarod? did she have any control over her family doing this? what town did she live in jarod? how long did her family do this jarod?
 
The biggest thing that illustrates is that government run healthcare systems are open to fraud.
Imagine how many people from Mexico would sneak over for US government funded healthcare?

This is a very strong post AGAINST Obama and far left Liberal Democrats in Congress attempts at adding YET more government in healthcare.

Though I can certainly concede it doesn't look well on Palin, which I don't mind. She is not really that Conservative anyway, she is largely a reactionary candidate, with a moderate record in Alaska and trying to morph herself into this staunch Conservative. But if you look beneath the surface she has no ideas and not the courage to really push for any less government.

the entire system jarod? again, where did her family live jarod???? i bet this is nothing but a case of living in the sticks and the town right across the border was closest....

A 2009 Harris/Decima poll found 82% of Canadians preferred their healthcare system to the one in the United States, more than ten times as many as the 8% stating a preference for a US-style health care system for Canada[7] while a Strategic Counsel survey in 2008 found 91% of Canadians preferring their healthcare system to that of the U.S.[8][9]. In the same poll, when asked “overall the Canadian health care system was performing very well, fairly well, not very well or not at all?” 70% of Canadians rated their system as working either "well" or "very well".[citation needed] A 2003 Gallup poll found only 25% of Americans are either "very" or "somewhat" satisfied with "the availability of affordable healthcare in the nation," versus 50% of those in the UK and 57% of Canadians. Those "very dissatisfied" made up 44% of Americans, 25% of respondents of Britons, and 17% of Canadians[10].

Well of course they say they prefer it, almost all but the rich have never known any different.
It's natural to defend that which you are familiar only with.

Then when you add the fact that they are told since birth by leftwing parties and media that their system is better, that it defines who they are or makes them Canadian. As well people have an instinct not to look a gift horse in the mouth as many are told it is free and think of that way (rather than remembering the enormous amount they pay in taxes for it).
I wonder if they experienced healthcare in the US how quickly those numbers would reverse?

Yeah bingo, Palin went to the nearest town (which happened to be in Canada) for healthcare. That premier was in Newfoundland, if he was unsatisfied with the limits that a smaller demographic could provide, he could have flown to Ontario (which has at least 25 times the population) for healthcare and is closer than Florida.
He chose the place that offered the best care.

Because the Canadian system is for EVERYONE. Even the Canadian Premier would be treated like Joe Sixpack and not as the Premier when they use the Canadian system, and for some, being treated the same as the common rabble are treated is "below their standing".

Why was the Canadian premier here in the USA for his healthcare?

Because the rich can buy their way to the front of the line here...
