House Renews Patriot Act

Putting different values on different rights, it's intellectual hackery Dixie.

You don't have to accept how the dimmest legal minds have chosen to rank rights. This is a construction of stupidity, like the "new normal" or "comparative advantage".

Threat level orange! ok losers.

Here's the reality......the USA survived 40 years of a Cold War with an enemy that we fought proxy wars with across the globe WITHOUT circumnavigating the Bill of Rights or the Constitution. Not only that, but we TRIUMPHED! And the old Soviets had FAR MORE deadly resources and infiltration abilities than a all the members of Al Qaeda and their friends combined.
Sorry but this is just blatantly false, McCarthyism was part of the Cold war fight and involved laws that were deemed unconstitutional.

Conservatives are against the constitution now. Because it doesn't actually say that corporations should run society.

Statements like these bother me. I live in a very Conservative rural area, just about all business here is small business, locally owned/operated. I don't know any Conservatives who love or hate corporations.
I do know almost every Conservative defends freedom in business whether it be big or small and defends their right to free speech.

Im sorry you're bothered, but i stand by it. Most conservatives these daze are brainwashed fascists who think globlization is unconditionally good, and still cling to reagans, "raising all ships" ball scratchery.

How would you FORCE businesses to stay here if not by using government like some nationalist fascist?

Better yet, how would you ever force them to return here?

I think globalization is overall a good thing, most of our growth came with large trade deficits and we certainly had larger manufacturing job losses in the 80's and 90's when we were doing better than now.
But even if I did not think it was good, it is nothing stopable, there is choice out there for companies, a more business understanding, technology using and english speaking world than ever before.

The problem is with too much government spending and regulation, you understand that part, you don't need to add to it.

We rank rights in virtually all we do in America, when you think about it. My right to drive as fast and/or drunk as I so desire, doesn't trump your right to be safe on the roadway, does it? My right to freely go where I please, is trumped by your private property rights, isn't it? Can you not realize, we have different levels of rights, and they have different values? There is nothing intellectually dishonest about that truth, it is dishonest to deny it.

Newsflash for you: the Cold War continued LONG after the bogus and heinous McCarthyism phased out in a blaze of shame. Do a little research and see that McCarthyism did MORE damage in the fight against communist spies than it actually helped.

My comparsion between the Soviet Union and Al Qaeda stands...and the panicked approved, unnecessary Patriot Act is a direct attack on the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

Yes it did continue long after McCarthyism went out, but YOU said that the US fought the cold war without circumnavigating the Constitution right?
Well, as McCarthyism was part of the cold war and as it did circumnavigate the Constitution (e.g. the Communist Control Act of '54) then the only logical conclusion is that your point is wrong.

No it's an indirect attack, but yes it should go.

Understand that I am not defending the Patriot Act or praising it or praising anything related to McCarthyism. You know I've read your posts here and there, you are always in attack mode and you have such a strong determination to always be right that you lack even the merest trace of humility that would ever allow you to accept the possibility of you being wrong.

You should also note that when I'm wrong I admit it, and have done so many times in the past....as here, you are correct regarding the Communist Control Act of 1954. I stand corrected.

There is NOTHING indirect about the Patriot Act.

I respond in kind, so if I'm "attacked" I counter-attack. "humility" is a subjective......I can't and won't live up to your personal definition/determination, and I won't expect anything else from others.
