Seperation of Church and State...! Jefferson style!

When atheists get together they spend most of their time attacking Christians. They don't need a building for that. When Christians get together in Church they spend most of their time worshiping God.

Free speech and freedom of religion are both protected by the US Constitution.

Bullshit...

The cathedral is both the episcopal seat of the bishop of Washington (currently the Right Reverend John Bryson Chane) and the primatial seat of the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church

Jarod was wrong about whether or not it is constitutional. Apparently Jarod thinks the national cathedral is part of our government. Its not.

Dude Kwanza is a made-up holiday designed to segregate folks, Hannukka is a minor Jewish holiday and only falsely elevated to equal status as Christmas falsely during the late 20th century.
So you are saying that governments should have the right to decide which religious holidays are legitimate?

SM claimed that some holidays were made up and had been made up recently. But he refused to give me any length of time a holiday had to be around before it was to be accepted.

I'm not Jarod, but I can answer that. The gov't selecting a particular religion over all other religions is forbidden.

Yet, colleges receiving government funds (taxpayer money) are building "foot baths" on campus to accommodate Mulsims in observing their religion...a particular religion....The Islamic religion

How does that work for you ?

Nice straw man.

No I'm saying that Christianity is an inherent part of the Founding of the US. The fact that Christianity is a tolerant religion is why we have Jews, Muslims and Christians all living together here without blowing each other up like they do in the Middle East.

It doesn't work for me at all. Thats why I have done some campaigning against it on the campus of the UofA.

And yet, you want these small towns to have nativity scenes on courthouse lawns, but not have Kwanzaa, Yule, or Hannukah displays?

They may have been just recently made up, but that makes them no less legitimate than any other religious holiday. That is exhibit two in my case that Right wingers only believe that the religious beliefs of the majority are the only ones that count. This guy is on your side Damo. This is your political ally in the conservative rebellion against liberalism.

He was a planner hired by Washington, who was a Founder. :)

Yes, Washington liked L'Enfant's plans for the city.

Whether L'Enfant had fantasies of a huge national church or not isn't really much more than an academic discussion of a person of the times. It has no bearing on the separation of church and state either.

The Southern Man would appreciate it if you didn't insist on being his spokesman, since you seem to like putting words in my mouth that are not my own. If you feel the need to quote me, then quote me.

What I said was that Kwanzaa was made up recently, and to segregate certain portions of the population, not to celebrate goodwill and brotherhood as the National Holiday of Christmas does.

Winterborn..

Of course the government has the right to recognize or not recognize whichever holidays they choose....the government being, WE the PEOPLE.
You think everyday should be a holiday ?

and of course there is no length of time to a holiday had to be around before it was to be accepted.....Some holidays will never be accepted no matter how long they exist...

WinterBorn asked SouthernMan point blank about this very subject, and SouthernMan refused to answer. So WinterBorn took it upon himself to make a guess based on the general flavor of numerous posts.

WinterBorn asked SouthernMan about Wiccans having displays on the courthouse lawns, and Southernman elected to avoid the question.
