Islamic State group claims responsibility for Moscow mass shooting that left dozens dead

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for Friday's mass shooting at a popular concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow that left dozens dead an injured more than 100 others, the Associated Press reported.

ISIS, which the United States has designated as a terrorist group, said in a message posted Friday night to the Telegram messaging app that it had “attacked a large gathering… on the outskirts of the Russian capital Moscow," and that the attackers had "retreated to their bases safely," according to the Moscow Times. Those claims could not be independently verified, however.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued a security alert warning that it was “monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow,” including concerts.

The March 7 statement advised U.S. citizens in the Moscow area to “avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.”

According to Reuters, the embassy issued its warning several hours after Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said it “foiled an attack on a synagogue in Moscow by a cell of the militant Sunni Muslim group Islamic State.”

Here is the deal, there has been an uptick in Islamic Terrorism in Russia over the last year.

And the Tali-wacker-ban do consider Russia an enemy of the state.

But let's not forget that Russian News, or Pooty's News rather, is in a position to blame this on whomever Pooty chooses to blame this on.

US Intelligence, has been warning Russian State officials that an Islamic Attack of this size was imminent, based on chatter they gathered as evidence.

So, until our Intelligence investigates these claims and verifies the attack was of an Islamic Terrorist origin, I will hold off on what I think.

Pooty could just be using our intelligence report to make the Islamic accusation the scapegoat, and the attack could have been an act that Pooty master-planned himself. Never put anything past Pooty. Because he is certainly capable of carrying out such terrorist acts for posturing himself and raising fear into his public about his enemies of his state.

I am personally surprised, Pooty did not take the opportunity to blame the Ukrainians for the attack- to generate sentiment from his public, for his NEFARIOUS war with them.

More Countries Warn About Terrorism in Russia After Moscow Plot Thwarted

Even though Putin hasn't addressed his own people about this terrorist attack, he seems to be creating a narrative to blame it in the Ukrainians. While this makes sense since he needs to rally Russian support for the catastrophic war he started, it will likely blow up in his face if ISIS conducts other attacks due to Putin's failure to recognize their terrorist victory.

CNN reported some suspects were captured making a run for the Ukrainian border. This could mean tacit Ukrainian support for the attack or, more likely, the terrorists were taking advantage of the chaos of war to make their escape.

As the map below displays, Russia has borders with several nations that have a grudge against Putin's Russia: https://www.orangesmile.com/common/img_country_maps/russia-map-1.jpg

If we heard about it, why didn't Putin? Did Putin allow it?

Russian security is myopically focused on protecting the Kremlin. The people are an afterthought at best. You can bet the reports U.S. intelligence warned the government weeks ago won't get a lot of coverage in the Russian press.

The bad news for Putin is that the Internet reaches most parts of Russia. Is it time for a Russian Spring?

Let me guess. The MAGATs will now blame Biden and claim that #TRE45ON "got rid of ISIS."

What's their beef with Russia? I thought Russia was supplying them with arms and other war stuff.

Makes you wonder if their security forces aren't stretched too thin, what with the Ukraine war, Ukraine dropping drones on them, and their stalking and arresting of American citizens for bogus charges.

I'd be surprised if the average Russian citizen heard even a word about that.

No doubt. MAGAts are notoriously foolish, stupid and gullible.

There's still a lot of hate for what Russia did in Afghanistan in the 80s. Russia supplies arms to terrorist for profit, not ideology. I'm curious what weapons were used to attack the concert. IMO, it's more likely they were AK-47s than M-16s. LOL

Russia is no friend of Islamic State. Putin came down hard on the side of President Assad in Syria and intervened on his behalf against IS rebels. Kremlin probably considers IS a virus considering Russia's large Muslim population and proximity to Muslim central Asian nations.

Probably less informed even than our social-media gossip obsessed American citizens. Those who did hear about it likely would either dismiss it as Western propaganda or believe it and put it on a shelf with the rest of the things they feel helpless to do anything about.

An excellent question. My guess is, yes, they are. The attack on Ukraine has been disastrous for Russia. Costly in terms of both blood and treasure. Putin will try to spin this but he's only digging his hole deeper. As some point, the majority of 144M Russians will express their discontent and demand better from their government.
