It was at the exact time that Joint Congress was certifying the votes. He scheduled speakers who were stirring up hatred with lies. This insurrection was planned by Trump.
Person after person asked Trump to call it off. When he finally did they broke it up. Everyone knew who was in charge of trying to destroy the American system. It was Trump.
Trump also had fake electors who he was trying to get recognized by Pence.

They had months to think and plan but lacked the intelligence to realize that if they completely succeeded in stopping the count (a ceremonial count) and stopping Pence's certification (a ceremonial certification) Biden would have become President on the appointed day as if nothing had happened except for trashing the Capitol, getting a couple of people killed, a lot of people hurt, setting the stage for dozens of prison sentences for themselves.
