Alcohol-induced dementia and paranoia can make people really angry. Notice that none of his posts ever contain intelligent content; he only vents. I vaguely recall a period where he was a lot more reasonable. He may have had a stroke or OD which pushed his deteriorating brain over the edge. It also may be as simple as "he used to live with his kids, but now he lives in a facility" and he feels abandoned so he takes it out on you and others.
Click "view forum posts" next to his name. None of them contain normal conversation such as "I had to send the Benz to the mechanic again" or "my dog needs his rabies shot". They're all strewn with vulgarity, insults or other disruptive behavior. JPP is his place to vent for 30 minutes because he's weak, stupid and scared.

I actually go way back with Sailor on several boards, and you are correct. We didn't agree on most issues, but we had no problems finding common ground at times.
That's gone. He lives a very lonely life, but lately it's apparent that he truly hates himself.

People can change gradually over time such as start out as a sunny, bright and happy kid and end up as a bitter, alcoholic 20 years later. Sudden changes mean something major happened to them. It could be medical or deep personal loss such as his mom died and he was an unmarried Momma's boy. Experience with death affects most people one way or another. It's a reality check.
In my experience, for most people it's mostly sobering if not a little depressing. A few become very scared and then turn bitter and angry.
I've been laughed at for analyzing across the keyboard, but a lot of analysis can come over the keyboard just as some mental exams are done over the keyboard. (See below) Obviously a specific diagnosis should be done in person by a professional but an initial diagnosis can be done over several hundred posts and a few months. Does Sailor need help? Yes, he does as do most of the bitter, old geezers on JPP.
FWIW, the vast majority on the Nice Thread are within the normal range. Other threads, not so much.

Sometimes you learn more than you expect from the tests, and not in a good way.
They are, indeed, fun. IMO, a good way to kickstart improving mental health in America is to have school kids take some of these tests once a quarter/semester. While some can show a problem immediately that needs closer look, for most people it would be a trend over time; becoming more depressed, for example, even though they may not need drugs for treatment. Just a few counseling sessions because their grandma died or their GF dumped them may be all they need.
Due to the demographics of JPP, most of those in need are elderly so there's death, deteriorating health, medical and financial concerns to worry about.
