60% of Americans say Biden lacks mental ability to hold office, poll finds

Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they are no longer confident that President Biden has the mental ability to effectively serve as president, according to a poll released Monday.

The poll, conducted by the Associated Press and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found that a growing number of Americans no longer see Biden as competent.

According to the AP, about 60% of those polled had doubts about the president's mental capabilities, including approximately a third of Democrats saying they are not very confident or not at all confident, and 80% of independents lacking confidence in his mental ability.

Going into Biden's State of the Union address on Thursday, just 38% of U.S. adults approve of how he is handling his job as president, while 61% disapprove. There is also broad discontent on the way Biden, 81, is handling a variety of issues, including the economy, immigration and foreign policy.

Roughly 4 in 10 Americans support Biden's handling of climate change, abortion and the war in Ukraine. He performs far worse on immigration, the war in Gaza and on the economy, however, with just 3 in 10 Americans backing him.

The news was not all positive for former President Trump, however. He had nearly 6 in 10 Americans saying that he also lacks the mental ability to serve as President. Nevertheless, the 77-year-old received wider support from voters on issues.

The AP poll surveyed 1,102 U.S. adults using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel. The survey ran from Feb. 22-26, and the poll advertises a 4.1% margin of error....

Biden is in BIG trouble.

That paragraph ended with this sentence: "Nevertheless, the 77-year-old received wider support from voters on issues."

Then why isn’t Trump campaigning on the issues instead of the “Big Lie” and playing the martyr claiming everyone is after him

Don’t know why the right can not accept that Americans don’t want either candidate, citing polls on this and that aren’t really relevant

Don't know, nor care. I'm not voting for him, nor heading up his campaign. Just pointing out your attempt to take information out of context, and putting it back into context. Biden has a lower than Trump popularity at this time. There's much time to election day...

Going to the actual referenced AP poll is better.

Note the rankings of the Independents in the graph below. It’s a given the Democrats will vote for Democrats and Republicans for Republicans. Each party represents about 30% of voting Americans leaving Independents, at 40%+, to be the largest voting block making them the “Deciders”. Polls are nice, but it’s those who actually show up on Election Day who will decide the next POTUS.

The SOTU speech will probably make or break Biden. It’s his opportunity to shine or fall on his sword.

Regardless, Americans are being handed a shit sandwich by both the Democrats and Republicans. FWIW, I’d rather have a demented grandpa than a wannabe dictator as President. That said, Nikki would be the best choice of all currently available candidate, IMO.

More than 6 in 10 (63%) say they’re not very or not at all confident in Biden’s mental capability to serve effectively as president, turning his coming State of the Union address into something of a real-time audition for a second term. A similar but slightly smaller share (57%) say that Trump lacks the memory and acuity for the job.

Could you give us some examples of his "Big Lie?"

Another reason why I suspect you’re more than half a bubble off plumb, former Chief Terry:

U.S. v. Trump: The Big Lie on Trial
Former President Trump has been indicted in both federal and Georgia state courts for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Something larger than Trump will be on trial — the Big Lie of a “stolen” election. Trump didn’t act alone. A web of pundits, elected officials, and media outlets propelled misinformation and baseless conspiracy theories. They stoked distrust in our electoral system, instigating an insurrection.

I have zero respect for liars and oath-breakers but do have compassion for the mentally ill…and I’m thinking you’re in the latter group, Terry, based upon your increasing bias, hatred and willingness to believe conspiracy theories.

Because it works. It appeals to a large number of anti-government citizens who believe in every conspiracy theory. It is obvious that those still claiming voter fraud have not seriously researched the accusations and ignore the fact that many of those making accusations have recanted their stories.

That proves nothing. The prosecutor in the Georga case is on trial herself for being a promiscuous, quid pro quo, favoritism, hack of a loser and it looks like her case will collapse on the basis of nothing more than her being a genuine POS. Right or wrong in terms of the case, she pissed it away by being a political hack, and thinking she could get away with all sorts of personal shit because of her position.

Well, your graph makes it pretty clear that by about 2 to 1 people think Biden's more incompetent and senile than Trump... Neither is much of candidate, and you'd think we could do better than those two.

Not out of context, it is a direct quote, the “nevertheless” doesn’t negate the fact that Americans view both candidates as mentally deficient

Got to admit it is humorous seeing a Trumpkin even bringing up “promiscuous”

Biden is in BIG trouble.

Fox's wording of the headline of that article is misleading.

What the poll actually says is that 60% of Americans are CONCERNED about his mental fitness/ability.

But the same percentage of Americans are concerned about Trump in the same way.

A lot of these people who are concerned about Biden's mental fitness, are planning to vote for him anyway.

I am one of those people.

Because even though I might be CONCERNED about Biden's POSSIBLE lack of mental fitness, I'm CONVINCED about Trump's CERTAIN lack of not only mental fitness, but moral fitness as well.

Disagreed, Chief Terry.
