Duetsche Bank wrote off $600 million worth of loans to Trump when he stopped paying, and continued to loan him money. Trump owed them $295 million when he left the White House, that loan is no longer on the books.

That is a question i have wondered as well.

There were real questions of whether or not Trump org, was heading towards another potentially bankruptcy pre him deciding to run against in 2016. He was almost broke before the Apprentice saved him, and that multi hundred million dollar influx of cash, was apparently tapped out, and Trump was again desperate for money. That is why, it is reported he ran. He did not believe he could win, and did not care. He just thought it would give him another "reality TV' like brand bump, that could he could cash in on.

So then he ends up winning and it is clear the power he felt in that office, became irresistible to him and corrupted him absolutely. The true story of 'absolute power corrupts absolutely'. Even as that power and the way he uses it, is destroying his 'brand' and hotels with his name on it, are breaking the contracts and deals and fleeing the brand, etc, Trump cannot resist the power, and sees other paths to new found riches, by grifting off Saudi's and Russians at new levels, by selling 'the Presidency'.

Trump has become like Gollum pursing the ring of power. Even as it corrupts him totally he desires that power and new level of wealth he can taste, so much he cannot resist it. So i doubt if you could give him a do over, if he would do anything different.

It was pointed out to them, and the Judge stated it numerous times, that this case was not about a fight over the value, but rather how Trump filed very different values for numerous properties. He filed Mar A lago was worth less than $15MM when he wanted to fight the tax assessment, to save taxes. He then went to the bank and said it was worth $300MM based on a bunch of lies, such as it being permitted for residential development when he contracted those rights away FOREVER, to save taxes.

Again and again, the Judge lays out clear documented lies and fraud, one after another by Trump and his org.
