Another tough one for the House

”What’s inside the Senate’s $95 billion bill to aid Ukraine and Israel and counter China”

“WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate early Tuesday passed an emergency spending package that would provide military aid to Ukraine and Israel; replenish U.S. weapons systems; and provide food, water, and other humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.”

“Now that the Senate has approved the emergency spending package, it is up to the Republican-led House to take it up, change it or let it die. Speaker Mike Johnson cast new doubt on the package in a statement Monday evening, making clear that it could be weeks or months before Congress sends the legislation to President Joe Biden’s desk — if at all.”

So what is the GOP to so now? They asked for a border proposal and when they got a bipartisan one they wouldn’t even consider it, although everyone knows they never had any intent to address the border

Now they get the rest of the package, which they could have separated and passed on their own last Fall, and thru a bipartisan effort, so what is Mikey going to do now? He, as well as the rest of America, knows that Trump doesn’t want anything moving forward that might offend his man Putin, let alone lose the political ammunition Trump could use if the Ukraine fell to Putin.

But all three nations are American allies, the Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and turning one’s back never worked out well in foreign relations, especially when those entities are facing a common adversary of the United States

Is Mikey going to finally grow a pair?

It would get 400 votes on the House floor. But Trump says no, so it will never get a vote.

Maybe not 400, but there would be a substantial number of the GOP who would side with the Democrats to make a bipartisan effort, rhey could even pressure Johnson the way the Freedom idiots do to allow a vote, but few have the courage to challenge MaraLago

They can call for a floor vote and they might have enough to force that. I'll bet it's more than 350. Unlike the border bill, there is almost no opposition on the Democratic side. But Johnson will bow to Trump and the MTG wing of the party. Time to throw the bums out.

Calling it "the Ukraine" is a little outdated and how Russia refers to the country. It's its own country. Just call it Ukraine if you don't want to perpetuate the Russian way of looking at it as something that needs to be taken back.

Out of 435!?!!? Believe me I’d like to see 435 but 400 seems waaay over the top. BTW, I may end up being correct about this finally passing. Looks like McConnell finally got his way.

Maybe 400 is too high, but it is supported by majorities in both parties. It just won't get a vote.

They are certainly noticing how easy it has become for political extremism to undermine commitments to allies for personal gain

It's not even that Trump said he won't defend our allies; it's that he was openly egging Russia on to attack.
.
That seems totally unprecedented

If MAGA Mike would allow a vote, it would pass. But there's at least 100 MAGA Republicans who don't want a vote called, and are basically just keen to abandon Ukraine to Putin.

Mike Johnson looks like a smug little shit. I can tell he’s one of those pricks I would be averse to immediately upon meeting him.
He went to LSU undergrad and law school. I knew guys like that there.
