How to Steal a Presidential Election : Trump and the peril to come

As the November election looms, Lawrence Lessig and Matthew Seligman offer How to Steal a Presidential Election, a disturbing examination of the vulnerabilities and pressure points in the way the US selects its president. Short version: plenty can go wrong.

Lessig is a chaired professor at Harvard Law School. He views a second Trump term as calamitous. “He is a pathological liar, with clear authoritarian instincts,” Lessig writes. “His re-election would be worse than any political event in the history of America  –  save the decision of South Carolina to launch the civil war.”

“Despite all the attention on 6 January 2021 [the attack on Congress], our legal and political systems remain dangerously unprotected against a smarter and more sophisticated attempt in 2024.”

Among Trump’s supporters, discontent with democracy is no secret. During the 2016 campaign, Paul LePage, then governor of Maine, thought Trump needed to show some “authoritarian power”. In 2019, Mike Johnson, then a Louisiana congressman, declared: “By the way, the United States is not a democracy. Do you know what a democracy is? Two wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner. You don’t want to be in a democracy. Majority rule: not always a good thing.”

Johnson is now House speaker. For good measure, he claims God told him “very clearly” to prepare to become “Moses”.

“The Lord said step forward,” Johnson says.

Up till this point only the Revolution has forged a recent election, MAGA lacked the smarts and the lawyers to prevent it.

Don't let them dirty republicans steal your election. Demand same day voting, machine ballots with paper backup.

Trump came pretty close to stealing the election in '20. Without Pence adhering dutifully to the Constitution, who knows what might have happened.

Can you imagine if Stefanik or Lake had been his VP at that time?

This is, without doubt, a perilous time for the republic. I don't want to spend the years ahead saying "told ya so"......

What do you mean "Go Wrong"?

Something tells that is something you are not in peril of doing.

Do you know how conservatives now determine whether there was cheating or not?

Their guy lost. That's it. If their guy loses, it was cheating.

No, dipshit. No. :nono:

When the counting gets "Paused" untill all the tallies are in, but the pre-cheated things didn't achieve the desired results, you have to take 2-3 weeks to cheat up enough ballots over what you

you already had pre-cheated and got beat at, so you had to take that number and cheat more votes.

That's how the 2020 election went. I left out that Big Tech and The Media were complicit in that farce foisted upon The American People.

Here's the thing: You don't know this, but most people in America do to 1 degree or another.

Yeah, it's not going to go well for Democrats if they try to cheat another American election.

The counting didn't get "paused."

Why do you keep saying that?

And spare me the link to an isolated story about an hour delay because a pipe burst, or something like that. There was no coordinated "pause."

Trump said there was massive fraud in 2016, also.

And he called the 2012 election a "sham."

See any pattern? It's what the guy does. Trump lying about stolen elections isn't surprising. Millions of people believing him "just cuz" is.

Where It Stands: Election Hinges On Key States, Final Results May Take A While

But you see, they gamed this all out beforehand in August before the election. Just Trump got way many more votes than they conceived to precheat to beat, bitty.

That;s why there had to be a pause.
