Irony is that, as Lindsey said, the Democrats will never concede so much on the border again, and certainly not under a Trump Presidency, this is the best compromise bill either side could ever hope to attain

And as far as the bullshit of the President issuing EOs to close the border, Trump tried that and the few times he attempted the order was held up in one Court or another indefinitely, not a prescription for anyone who wanted to address the issue

Up to 5,000, with tougher standards to entry and quicker judicial review, two changes the right has been requesting for decades

What the bill does is give the Border Patrol and Homeland security power to SHUT THE BORDER if certain thresholds are hit in crossing. What it DOES NOT DO, is go round up people and make a minimum of 5000 cross a day, whether there are that many trying or not.

This is a power Obama nor Trump had and is a huge improvement. A future Magat gov't can adjust the bill and seek to pass even lower limits in the future.

What it allows for is what got Obama called 'Deporter in Chief'.

Since the US Constitution requires processing anyone who claimed to be a refugee, once they set foot on US soil, the way you end up releasing them to the US streets is when hearing their appeal takes 6 months or more and thus the US cannot hold so many people. If you instead can process and them put them on a plane home, as Obama did, that avoids the problems.

It is dead on arrival as it is a good bill and as Trump has said, 'we do not want to give Biden an election win'.

If it was a bad bill then he would get no win.


But Magats could not give a crap about the border other than as an election issue. They have been screaming for the Dems to work with them on legislation and the two times legislation is offered they say 'not interested' even as fellow far right Republicans, in the Senate, who worked on it, admit this is the BEST border legislation the US has seen in decades, from a republi'can' perspective.

Even as they admit, if Trump gets another term there is no way he will get any legislation near this tough passed as he will need Dem votes, to do so, and they will not be motived to work with him on what is a republi'can plan without major concessions to the Dems.
