Air America signs off

Air America, the 6-year-old, left-leaning talk radio network that featured hosts like Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, is pulling the plug, citing the poor economy.

Air America, based in New York, was heard in the Washington area on AM-1050. It had studio space on Idaho Avenue NW as part of a marketing deal with Bonneville International Corp., which owns WTOP.

“This very difficult environment has had a significant impact on Air America’s business,” Chairman Charlie Kireker said in a memo to employees that is posted on the company's Web site. “This past year has seen a ‘perfect storm’ in the media industry generally.”

Could it be a better week than this.

1. Republican Scott Brown beats a democrat for Sen. Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts.

2. US Supreme Court overturns McCain/Fiengold McCain-Feingold campaign finance law.

3. Air America is bankrupt and closing forever.

The headline should have read:
After a prolonged problem with it's engines, Scare America finally crashes and burns.

:cof1:

It seems only liberal talk radio cannot make a profit, guess that's why they had to steal from the Boys & Girls Club.

Maybe if they had spoken to the public, instead of telling them what they should think, they might have remained viable.
