A lot of bad shit happened during the Cold War. The only good thing about the Cold War was that it wasn't a Hot War.

Like Israel and the Palestinians, the history of the Cold War should be remembered in context.

Dippitydo and yourself act like I’m ignorant of history, I am not, what China and Russia did does not excuse Kissinger’s crimes. Kissinger was a war criminal.

I don't doubt that you know the history. I'm just ensuring that you and I are each clear about perspective.

Consider that Lincoln was also a war criminal by starting a war that cost our nation 2% of the population and left devastating consequences that are still with us. But that is also a narrow view of both the events and the consequences of the Civil War.

Yes, the US, with the help of Kissinger, caused a lot of deaths, but so did the USSR and the PRC. It wasn't Kissinger who was throwing Marxists out of helicopters in Chile or making them "disappear" in Argentina. It was the leaders of those nations who did it...with the support of the USA.

George Santayana's famous comment is applicable here. We should remember the past, but we should remember it in context not just use it as a hammer to bash political opponents.

It could be argued that Kissinger kept us out of a hot war thus saving millions

That would be a valid argument. It was the Soviets funding Marxist guerrillas in Latin America. The history of the US backing RW dictators only looks bad when the alternative isn't considered. It's not rocket science to look at what Marxist leaders did in both Cuba and Nicaragua.

A cold war is always preferable to a hot war.

I actually did pose the question already but to reiterate, why would those fine left leaning women want to date an "evil monster"? They could have gone to Hanoi like their sista Jane Fonda.
