Why has the driving force of the right become hatred of gays and trans.

Hatred is always a driving force of the Right. It focuses on people, things and ideas seen as out of character with "correct" people, things and/or ideas, the Right being mainly about moral judgment. Gays and trans are just one group in the crosshairs.

It's all about moral judgment. Some people, like myself, believe in the moral of "live and let live" plus "mind your own business, don't hurt anybody". Others believe they are superior enough to dictate to others how to live, what to believe and what they should do.

I strongly disagree with the latter group telling me dictating to me when my actions and beliefs are not hurting anyone.

The rules of morality in the 10 Commandments are nothing more than what a reasonably moral and grounded person would agree to. It has nothing to do with religion.

Don’t steal.
Don’t murder.
Don’t fuck your neighbor’s spouse.
Don’t be jealous.
Don’t lie.
Take care of your parents.

The other ones are bullshit.

The difference is non-believers will do these things simply because they are the right way to lives one’s life. The “Christians” use the punishment of eternal damnation as their motivation.

This is also an example that the Bible is more than religious stories; the dietary restrictions are common sense for an era lacking antibiotics and refrigeration. It entails rules to maintain a peaceful society as discussed.

"Extremists" by definition lack in critical thinking skills. The Right typically lacks them when beginning social and political judgements from a moral plane. I don't see Earl's posts any longer except when someone quotes one and I see he is quoted this morning in this thread speaking under the mantle of Christianity, another crutch of the Right. Well, about that, The New York Times this morning has a front page piece about civilians in Gaza being killed at "a historic pace", including many thousands of children whose deaths received little if any mention yesterday in the wall to wall coverage of the 13 Israeli hostages and whom Earl, the Christian, dismisses with, "elections have consequence" and "children also are terrorists".
