You should consider reading more than just the headline, Terry.
"In its latest earnings report, Ford conceded that its Model e division - which focuses on electric vehicles and future mobility - posted losses of $1.3 billion between July and September 2023. The automaker says this significant loss can be attributed to "continued investment in next-generation EVs and challenging market dynamics."
Interestingly, sales of electric vehicles increased in the third quarter, with 20,962 cars sold during this period. Mustang Mach-E sales increased by 42.5%, totaling 14,824 units. Unfortunately, sales of the F-150 Lightning have plummeted. Ford recently reduced production of its electric truck but cited other issues as the reason behind this decision.
"Ford is able to balance production of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles to match the speed of EV adoption in a way that others can't. That's obviously good for customers, who get the products they want - and good for us, too, because disciplined capital allocation and not chasing scale at all costs maximizes profitability and cash flow," said CFO John Lawler."

Ford is still losing money making EV's however you want to slice it. Almost all EV manufacturers are losing money on each sale.

Those points aside, there is a concern about increasing the electrical output of the US without just building more coal or oil-fired generators.
If that can be handled, then a balance could be made in reducing electrical costs in oil refineries.

Ignore Terry who will tell you advancements in technology never happen.
Improvements in battery technology (better storage, reduced/no rare earth materials) and improvements in Solar are the future.
Each new home will have a battery wall in the garage or elsewhere, when built, along with solar panels and will be able to capture a good percent/All of their daily energy needs and store until needed or sell it back to the grid, especially in periods of surge need.
Again, Terry will reply to this as if we are not seeing several major new improvements and breakthru's each and very year, and saying none of this work, because he is stupid when it comes to all things tech. Meanwhile tech across all cataegories advances not GAF what Terry thinks...

When Ford was building the first ever mass production line they lost major money for years, as the cost of building out the lines is front loaded and amortized over years and then earned back thru vehicle sales OVER DECADES.
this is the absolute NORM when any mass manufacturing tool up is being undertaken. Investors typically front all the costs and losses for the return built in to the future.
Only Terry screams at Henry Ford, 'But you are losing money up front no matter how you want to slice it', as if that is a reason for Ford and others to never build a mass production line.
Terry cannot you not see above that AGAIN you are making the exact same mistake i point you ALWAYS make with technology and that is you ALWAYS freeze it at a point in time, and then assume no changes or value in the future and by your metrics almost NO NEW TECH would ever get built?

You cannot build an entire mass production line, taking months and months to build and install, and then roll the first cars off the line and expect the entire company to be profitable.
I mean, derps who are stupid can expect that but that is not how things work. the equipment and factory build end up amortized across decades.

No, what you stated is false. Incentives ARE NOT forcing them down people's throats. California is the only state that I know of that will mandate EVs in the future. And that's understandable with their smog problem. Their car emissions mandates have always been more strict and have been around for decades.

Yes, electric cars can and do sometimes catch on fire. And it seems such conflagrations are reported in the news on a surprisingly regular basis. This raises a couple of obvious questions. First, how often do EVs actually catch on fire? Second, how does the likelihood of an EV fire compare to the likelihood that a vehicle powered by a gasoline or diesel engine?
