"Amateur" college coach Nick Saban just bought $700M Mercedes dealership!

Joe Biden - "Time to put Trump in the bullseye."
He has a job of no social value. Just a useless football coach in what is supposed to be an amateur sport. That's what the players are told when they ask the college, "why don't you pay me $8 M a year?" Colleges should not even be teaching sports.

Nick Saban isn’t just an Alabama football legend. He’s also a smart businessman who’s expanding his portfolio by buying Mercedes-Benz car dealerships.

The money he’s made coaching the Crimson Tide, and other schools throughout his career, has led him to an amazing side hustle buying car dealerships, according to Gail Kachadourian Howe of Automotive News. The Alabama football coach is dropping some serious dough too.

“Nick Saban’s Dream Motor Group has purchased two South Florida Mercedes-Benz dealerships for roughly $700M.”

He definitely forked up the cash for this new Mercedes-Benz property. “The transaction’s purchase price was about $700 million for the land, buildings, franchises, and body shop.”
So, on top of being one of, if not, the best college football coach’s of all time, Nick Saban is also investing his money wisely. With two car dealerships, his company, Dream Motor, “will sell approximately 22,000 new vehicles annually.

In 31 out of 50 states, the highest paid government employee is a football coach. In another 9, it is a basketball coach. Montana has a CEO of their investment fund as the best paid government employee. The rest have medical and/or educational professionals as their highest paid employees. A good doctor costs at least $400k, so that makes sense. Why on earth are $10 million to a football coach?

I am all for football coaches getting $10 million from the private sector, or whatever else they can get paid. That is none of my business. But, taxpayer money should go to general welfare. A doctor training other doctors to cure diseases is a public good, in a way that coaching steroid using illiterate losers is not.

In Europe, you have a system closer to the baseball minor leagues. You go to a university, but also at the same time are paid a small salary at a separate soccer team. You hope to be good enough to be in their equivalent of the major league, but also have a university degree, or other profession to fall back on.

At most school's the coach's salary comes from revenue generated by the athletic department, not taxpayers. In fact, one could probably argue that Saban is underpaid.

In your defense TDAK, considering you were probably cut from the Freshman team your bitterness is understandable. (Couldn't make the team and your daughter is dating/married to a black dude, tough times for you I know...)

College sports are disposable as are all school sports at any level.
I eschewed school sports to box, and I turned out perfect!

Music, Art, and Drama courses are imperative, however,
We're not animals.
Well, actually we are, but animals need culture too.

STUPID MORON. We don't need the arts. Colleges should teach PEMCIT only.

YOU ARE THE DUMBEST CREATURE IN HISTORY

Here's the reality. Winning (football) programs boost admissions and donations to Universities. You know what Universities love more than anything? Money. Thus why it can be argued Saban is underpaid for the ROI he's brought to Alabama.

(You being a Boston guy may be familiar with this but the term often used is the Flutie Effect)

I don't like it but I do understand.
The Flutie effect was very real but short-lived--two decades, maybe.
College football is once again moribund in Boston.

Everyone but you knows what pemcit is, you moron.

No one else here knows what "PEMCIT" is, and worse yet, no one on the internet knows what "PEMCIT" is. It is a term that you made up. I can guess from usage it is like STEM, but it is impossible to be certain what it includes.

We are at a point that if anyone claimed to know what PEMCIT is, we would know that either they are lying, or they are a sock puppet of you.

On the surface it’s interesting that a City with so many Universities seems to care so little about college sports.

Does it? The highest donation universities have the worst teams. Do you think MIT is a football powerhouse?

A good research department generates money for a university. Where football must be subsidized, research grants are shaved off the top. A good 50+% of any grant goes to the university.

More importantly, do football coaches coach non-football students. Other departments educate people outside that major... Except sports coaches.

You know what Universities love more than anything? Money.

Actually prestige is what they love more than anything else.

Yes, the elite of the elite don't worry about football teams. My point wasn't in reference to them. And data does show what they call the Flutie Effect. Applications and donations increase when athletics (football generally) is up/good.

Prestige comes from money. Money is the milk of politics and Universities. If prestige was all they were after they wouldn't let in the kids of big donors in like they do. They let them in because everything is driven by money.
