Another Red Wave fails to make appearance

Who said anything about a red wave?

New Jersey Republicans went into Election Day with high hopes, believing they could end Democratic majorities that have endured for 20 years. Instead, Democrats gained five seats increasing their majority.

Christie(a Republican) was able to win NJ in a landslide, but that was before trump. Since trump, it has gotten harder for Republicans to win with moderates.

Maybe you ought to look at the link I provided earlier. As for Christie being a republican,
:bigthink:

The link you provided earlier was to the Presidential elections, which we can all agree Republicans have done badly in NJ. But they have done better in the governor elections, and other down ticket races. Christie is a Republican, you will not be able to hoist him onto the Democrats.

Agreed. The recent election was, undoubtedly, fueled by Independents and moderates moving away from Trumpism.

Most Independents, which constitute about 40% of the voting public, don't want Trump in the WH. That doesn't mean they want Biden.

Two-thirds of independents say they don't want Trump to run for president

Most Americans do not want trump to run. But most Republicans want trump to run. That means he will almost certainly win the nomination, and will probably lose the general election. There is far more certainty about the nomination than the general election.

This is all just reality. But Republicans refuse to accept reality.

Although the fear of a second Trump presidency is palpable, you are probably correct that nominating Trump will guarantee a Democratic win in 2024.

I cannot see anything, short of an unexpected death, that would prevent Biden and trump from being the nominees. trump is in far worse health, so an unexpected death would be more expected with him. The general election is harder to predict, but given the majority of Americans really do not want trump, it is probable Biden will win reelection.

Elections go back and forth, they always have.

Some of you should read a history book sometime

Yes, they do!

But, since Donald Trump proved to be unfit to be the president of the United States in his first two years in office, and it was recognized by the Voting Majority of Americans, and since TRUMP IS NOW THE LEADER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS HAVE SWUNG OVER TO THE DEMOCRATS- and they have won the last several national and state elections overall.

It will remain that way as long as Donald Trump is the leader of the Republican party, and still a front runner in the Republican Primary.

He has been rejected by the VOTING MAJORITY, and mostly every REPUBLICAN TRUMP CLONE he endorses has also been rejected. NOT ALL- BUT MOST OF THEM!

If Biden wins, or even Trump, the probability goes up greatly that We, the People, will have a President either die of natural causes in office or become incapacitated in office as we saw with Reagan.

I would say "real possibility" rather than "probability". It is always a real possibility, but this might be higher possibility than we are used to. It is worth remembering that the youngest President we ever elected died in office.

So the question is what happens next. Biden has a competent staff, that will continue being competent without Biden. trump demands his incompetence be the center of every decision, and will have a team of yes men.

It is like comparing what happened after FDR died to what happened after Hitler died. There was no one to take Hitler's place, thank God.

Disagreed since the odds of an average, healthy 55-year-old dying in office are less than an 86-year-old simply based upon actuarial tables.

That said, all the RWers whining about Biden's age are quick to dismiss the obese current 77-year-old they are hoping to elect into office next year.

For this table, the period life expectancy at a given age is the average remaining number of years expected prior to death for a person at that exact age, born on January 1, using the mortality rates for 2020 over the course of his or her remaining life.
