EV sales are booming and there are a plethora of new, affordable models.

Are electric cars as safe as gas-powered cars?

While a battery's heavy weight could affect braking distance or an inexperienced driver could be caught off guard by an EV's strong acceleration, those aren't risks unique to electric cars. On the other hand, electric SUVs tend to have a lower center of mass thanks to that heavy battery beneath the floor, making them less susceptible to rollover than traditional vehicles with similar ground clearance. EVs often feature the most modern driver aid technologies and passive safety features in an automaker's portfolio, which can tip the safety scales in their favor.
Electric cars do require first responders to handle them differently in the event of an accident or fire. However, despite a few high-profile fire-risk recalls, multiple studies show that EVs are actually significantly less likely to catch fire than combustion cars.

Are electric cars as safe as gas-powered cars?
No. They are heavy, making them less safe for handling. They are fire hazards with the potential to LOCK YOU IN YOUR CAR and unable to escape the fire, and the fires are much more intense.

They are.

They roll over just the same, but they will often catch fire doing it.

Using the same technology as a gasoline car is not 'tipping the scales'.

Many first responders are not equipped to handle an EV fire, so they poor massive water on it until the batteries are consumed.
However, despite a few high-profile fire-risk recalls, multiple studies show that EVs are actually significantly less likely to catch fire than combustion cars.
Blatant lie and special pleading fallacy. It's not recalls, it's the FIRE. Gasoline cars do NOT just catch fire sitting there like an EV does. Gasoline cars do NOT catch fire from simple corrosion like EVs do. Gasoline fires do NOT burn nearly as intensely as an EV does. As a percentage, EVs catch fire more commonly than gasoline cars. Whole ships have been lost to EV fires.

Less than 1% of the cars on the road are EVs.

Electric Vehicle Trends for 2023

Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States rose by two-thirds in 2022, comprising 5.8 percent of all new vehicles sold. This represents a significant increase from the 3.2 percent market share in 2021. After a decade when most plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) available for sale were sedans and hatchbacks, automakers introduced new electrified truck and SUV models last year. The list of body styles coming in 2023 and beyond is even more varied, and the number of brands introducing their first EV model is also growing.

Lucid rolls out vehicle-to-vehicle charging feature

More reasons to buy an EV.

Lucid Group, Inc. released a vehicle-to-vehicle charging feature called RangeXchange, enabling Lucid Air units to charge other electric vehicles (EVs). Lucid also rolled out a RangeXchange charging cable adapter for the feature.
The RangeXchange charging adapter allows energy to flow from a Lucid Air battery pack to any EV at a rate of 9.6 kW.

The luxury EV manufacturer explains that the RangeXchange feature is possible thanks to Lucid’s bi-directional Wunderbox, which combines proprietary software with revolutionary capabilities. RangeXchange is Lucid’s first application of the Wunderbox, hinting that the company has more plans for the technology.

Mini Will Build Electric John Cooper Works Models

Just as BMW has already put the M badge on EVs, Mini will keep its performance badge alive as it shifts focus to electric cars.
Mini has gradually turned John Cooper Works into its own version of BMW's M, a badge that indicates a serious performance car for buyers interested in that sort of thing. All previous JCW-branded Minis have been gas-powered, but that is about to change. In a conversation with Motor1, Mini executives Mike Peyton and Christian Wehner confirmed that the brand is preparing to bring that badge to its electric offerings, too.

With Mini focusing on electric for its newest generation of flagship hatchback, offering a performance variant of the EV is a natural choice.

GENERAL MOTORS’ HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ‘TESLA KILLER’ VEHICLE EXPECTED TO BEGIN PRODUCTION BY 2024

The new model “promises the same commitment to craftsmanship, technology, and performance” as its predecessor.

General Motors is the newest car manufacturer in the race for the title of “Top Electric Vehicle (EV).”
According to TheStreet, GM announced that it would be introducing an all-electric version of its beloved Cadillac Escalade SUV, the Cadillac Escalade IQ SUV, later this year.*
General Motors noted in its May 22 press release that the Escalade IQ “promises the same commitment to craftsmanship, technology, and performance that has helped the Escalade nameplate dominate the large luxury SUV segment for the last 20 years.” However, the press release did not include information about the Escalade IQ’s starting price or the vehicle’s range.*
Tesla had the top-selling EVs of manufacturers in the United States in 2022, followed by Ford. GM received some recognition as the top U.S. automobile manufacturer in terms of sales, but it has since been quiet on the EV front, per TheStreet.*
The two current EV models in the GM portfolio include the Cadillac LYRIQ, an SUV already in production, and CELESTIQ, a luxury sedan set to hit the market in 2024.*
It’s unlikely that the Escalade IQ will share the same features, modalities, and technologies as its internal combustion engine namesake. For starters, it will be powered by GM’s Ultium modular battery platform — which rivals batteries of competitors like Tesla and Ford.*
The weight distribution and power of this battery system suggest that the Escalade IQ may drive like a sportier and more lightweight SUV, which stands in stark contrast to the driving style of the current Escalade model.
GM’s expansion into the EV market shows a tremendous shift of interest in companies toward EVs and surmounting competitiveness among manufacturers in the EV market.*

Face the facts. This country will never in our lifetimes go EV. They sit on the lots at car dealerships here in small town America for months on end until some city dealership makes a trade with them.
Lots of gasoline and diesel fueled farm equipment out here too, far from the stench of big cities. EV's will have a difficult time invading us.

EV industry is the only sector in the world on track to meet climate goals

EVs accounted for 10% of new car sales globally in 2022, and is projected to hit at least 75% by 2030.
The EV market is a rare bright spot. No other sector is on pace to cut emissions fast enough/SIZE]
A report published Tuesday found that the EV sector is on track to meet 2030 targets aimed at averting the worst impacts of the climate crisis. There's no indication that any other industry — including power, buildings, agriculture, and finance — will curb greenhouse-gas emissions enough to meet 2030 targets.*
