Where did I say they should take steep cuts in wages or benefits? Why are you trying to put words in my mouth. I do believe workers should get raises closer to the national inflation rate and a more reasonable benefit package. If their wages are much higher than the average world wide auto worker it will eventually mean they will be priced out of the export market and import market.

Admittedly I’m not a car guy but that was my thought as well. My understanding is Tesla is not union workers? So labor costs on their line items are lower (not that Tesla’s are cheap of course) thus contributing to making the conversion for Ford to EVe more difficult. (And yes, the global competition as well.)

This isn’t to suggest people should work for peanuts but as history shows there’s a tipping point where when you push too far you lose out in the long run.

the new vehicle market is going to suffer for this. too many people, right now, can't buy a new car. I read yesterday that there are many people whose car payment is over 1 grand a month............that is something I find impossible to fathom.

I believe GM and Ford are in a better position to determine how to balance overhead and costs to remain competitive, than obscure posters on JPP are. The automakers agreed to this labor contract.

Post your calculations and economic modeling using GM's financial data showing this contract will render GM unable to compete in the markets.

I accept your tacit confession that every prediction of depression and recession hollered by Trump and MAGA for the past three years have failed to come to pass.
 
Republicans like to put on hard hats at fake union rallys to give the impression they are the party that has the working man's interests at heart.

But they are the first to complain and squeal like stuck pigs whenever the working man gets a decent raise.
 
Record profits should mean record contracts. Good for them. A good idea and all the capital in the world means diddly without labor.

I had a similar thought. With that mindset why should any discussion boards (or any forum) exist that would allow people to question the actions of leaders (be it politics, community or business) if these leaders are all knowing? We've all heard the adage 'speak truth to power' but again, who are these folks to question power?

History is replete with leaders who have made bad decisions so I don't think it unreasonable for someone to have questions. (On a personal level I'm sure we can all think of times when we've questioned decisions our bosses and/or company we worked for made)

I am about the opposite of a business mogul but I've spent years negotiating CRE transactions. Each deal has its own dynamic, sometimes my client is negotiating from a position of strength and sometimes they're not. Often you hear about trying to negotiate a 'win-win' scenario but when one side declares victory the implication is usually that the other side lost. So in this Ford/UAW negotiation if this deal is what a labor victory looks like the implication seems to be management didn't win; i.e. they lost. And because one side agrees to a deal doesn't mean its necessarily a good deal for them. If they're negotiating from a position of weakness a bad deal may be their only option.
