Hakeem Jeffries wins House Speaker Vote

Yes. Yes. Have you? Do you have a college degree? I do.

Sure, let me help you substantiate your opinion:

The Founding Fathers Feared Political Factions Would Tear the Nation Apart
The Constitution's framers viewed political parties as a necessary evil.

Thanks for caring about my opinion so much.

You called my statement of fact an "unsubstantiated opinion" and then provided a source for exactly what I said. Tough day for you, weirdo.

You're free to believe the link proved "exactly what" you said.

I disagree and am content to let anyone who cares to decide for themselves if the link proves you to be 100% correct and a bastion of truth and justice.

FWIW, I care because I'm curious about the variety of opinions and methods of thinking other people have.

IMO, you care as a means to reaffirm your own views without always knowing how to prove it to others. Some people care about the truth, others seek to reaffirm their own views as the absolute truth. There are several reasons for this but mainly because they have low self-esteem and/or they seek to dominate others with the firm view that their view is the only view and that their view is "truth".

You really are an insufferable bitch. You just can't get out of your own way or shut your constantly yammering, thoughtless mouth.

My statement was, "The Founders never wanted political parties." That statement is not refutable except by someone who knows nothing about the creation of the country. A real man would have the balls to admit when he is wrong, but I cannot remember a single time on this board that you have ever admitted when you were wrong. That is the sign of a weak person with an unmanageable ego and severe difficulty handling social interactions appropriately.

Your last sentence is textbook projection and aligns with everything else I've just written. You have problems. I imagine your personal life is about on par with Hawkeye's and that people you used to work with found you to be unnecessarily abrasive and generally unpleasant.

I do have my ways. LOL

Your complaints are at odds with your previous statement:
Dutch argues for the sake of arguing. He probably thinks he's debating, but he will take whatever position is contrary to the person he's talking to just to disagree. There's something sociopathic about that.

When you say "The Founders" you mean all of them since you didn't qualify it. If I said "The Republicans are traitors" would you think that applied to all or only a few? If only a few would you think I'm stupid or ignorant for not qualifying it with "some Republicans" or "53% of Republicans"?

I'm 67 years old, son. The only person desperate to prove they are a "real man" in this conversation is you, sir.

Why do you think it's projection? Are you able to explain in an intelligent and coherent manner, Diesel?

No doubt you imagine a lot, sir. :)

I honestly think you're pathetic.

I honestly think you're pathetic.
I have no doubt you truly want to believe so. :)

Elie Wiesel said “The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.”

I believe those words which is why I believe you care despite your claims to the contrary. Why you care is what piques my interest.

Obviously it's not love, so it must be hate. The subject of "hate" interests me because understanding your hate is a closer step to understanding the hate on 1/6...and vice versa.

IMHO, it's a fear response, but I'm still researching it.

He does that sometimes. On another subject, (I just remembered this) when I first came on board this forum, he thought I was your sock :)

I have a slightly different view.

Oom is clueless where it come to nuance,
is bereft of Aristotelian logic,
and extremely imprecise and careless in his use of words.

These are hardly the most egregious faults a person could have,
I'll readily admit,
but they happen to be the very faults for which
I personally have the least tolerance.

That's why efforts to sustain civil discourse between ourselves always fail.

Who is "Oom"?

I think they did a pretty good job building a novel system from scratch. They were literate and thoughtful. They also didn't consider women and Black people citizens. They are not heroes, but they formed a system that functioned relatively well for a couple centuries.

Democracy collapses when there's income disparity. It allows the wealthy to purchase power in their favor at the expense of the lower classes. I think that's what's happening in the USA now. It started with Bush's Supreme court allowing the wealthy and corporations to buy politicians.

Edit: I just remembered: Citizens United. That was the case that through a grenade into our Democracy.

Oh, that's another fun quirk about Dutch. He accuses most people of being someone else's sock. Odd guy that one.

Meanwhile, I personally consider it a compliment to have a posting style similar to yours.

Awww :) Thanks, Diesel. Back at ya!

Keep researching. Your incessant armchair attempts at psychoanalyzing people you don't know and will never meet have always been your strong suit.

Not sure it collapses for that reason. IMHO, income disparity causes problems. It's the crackdown of those in power against those seeking to rectify the disparity the pushes democracy toward collapse.

"So this is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause" - Padmé, Revenge of the Sith 2005

There's controversy since later versions of the movie changed the word "democracy" to "liberty".

After 2016, they should have kept the word "democracy". LOL

Citizens United was a problem. A problem that can be solved by a functional Congress and a nation of voters who are greatly united to fix it.

Absolutely. The decision to consider corporations individuals and campaign contributions free speech was the death warrant for American democracy. Meanwhile, the political parties have brainwashed most of the electorate into thinking they matter. They have convinced people that people who belong to the other party are enemies. And technology has turned politics into something the Founders could never have imagined. It was a good experiment, but things are getting worse, not better, and seem to be headed to a precipice.

Well, I'm of the opinion that when one can grasp power in your favor - whether it benefits others or not, many people - not all - but many will do it. The Republicans are the party of the wealthy and privileged who act like populists in their words but not in their actions. trump and Bush are great examples - tax cuts for the rich while cutting benefits for the lower classes.

I just had lunch with a colleague last week - he's in the same profession as me but with another company. He told me that trump's tax laws disallowed him from claiming unpaid business expenses, like personal car expenses as a deduction. That's not helping the little guy.

It amazes me how fans of people like trump, Bush, and Reagan worship them for their words and ignore their actions.

I don't psychoanalyze, Diesel. That implies I'm trying to help you or, worse, that I'm a psychiatrist. :)

I tend to think the Republicans scapegoat and vilify their political rivals more than Democrats. When was the last time Democrats tried to keep a president in power with lies about a stolen election then tried to overturn the government in a violent attack? I don't know a Democrat who claims trump stole the 2016 election.

Now, magas will try to claim there's an equivalency between the Mueller probe and J6. There is not equivalency. For one thing - one is legal the other is not. Also, contrary to what magas claim, there was a lot of meat in the Mueller report about trump lackeys working with the Russians.
