WASHINGTON (AP) — For many Americans, the Republican dysfunction that has ground business in the U.S. House to a halt as two wars rage abroad and a budget crisis looms at home is feeding into a longer-term pessimism about the country’s core institutions.

The lack of faith extends beyond Congress, with recent polling conducted both before and after the leadership meltdown finding a mistrust in everything from the courts to organized religion. The GOP internal bickering that for nearly three weeks has left open the speaker’s position — second in line to the presidency — is widely seen as the latest indication of deep problems with the nation’s bedrock institutions.

It isn't just Republicans that make Congress dysfunctional, and anyone who thinks it is all just one party is either insane, a liar, or both.

No. Are you going to say the Democrats forced the GOP to not elect a Speaker?!

Your position is myopic. The Speaker issue is only one of a myriad of dysfunctional things in Congress going on. That you want to focus on it alone shows how grotesquely partisan your views are, hence, "myopic."

So, you now are denying reality because it makes you look bad.

House Republicans go down in flames — again

“Back to the drawing board,” a grim McCarthy said after Friday afternoon’s conference meeting. McCarthy (Calif.) blamed the seemingly endless chaos on the Republicans who ousted him, saying “the amount of damage they have done to this party and to this country is insurmountable.”

Added the former speaker: “We are in a very bad position as a party.”

Your self-delusion is incredible.

Really?

Year after year, Congress can't produce a budget on time. That's both parties.
Two obviously failed from the start Trump impeachments. That's the Democrats.
The Jan 6 hearings that went on for months and went nowhere. That's the Democrats.
Senate leadership playing partisan politics with what comes to the floor for debate and votes. That's both parties.

Your focus solely on the immediate and present is pure myopia

I have plenty of faith in our institutions. That’s because I ignored Trump’s constant barrage of lies about them. Are they perfect? Of course not. They’re run by humans.

The courts are showing us they are functioning as well as ever.
I don’t give a shit, and never have, for organized religion, but it hasn’t changed that much.
Law enforcement is cleaning up its act a little more due to increased scrutiny.
The military is still the best in the world.
Congress is dysfunctional, but that’s because of the Trump hangover.
Elections are more secure than they ever have been

Agree. It is the overt project of Trump and the GOP to make people think government does not work.

I think voters are smart enough to realize that the two wars and the budget crisis belong to the Oval Office, not the House of Representatives.....
