I think the invasion is to find and destroy their resources to make war. Basically, they go to find the rockets, etc. rather than to destroy Gaza. I don't think their goal is to make Gaza a parking lot, it is to take away their ability to threaten Israel. We will see though, it will happen.

I see it as a golden opportunity for Israel to once and for all take that land. They've got the Palestinians essentially living in an open prison with lousy conditions, so reconstruction will be in favor of more "settlements" and such. Hamas made a seriously stupid move....they're in a bottle neck up against superior numbers and fire power. I don't know who they think will come to their rescue, as the Egyptians already stated that they're not keen on Palestinian refugees. That the civilian population is in the cross fire doesn't seem to register with either faction.

Like I've said, war is waged by the desperate, the arrogant and the stupid.

While I tend to agree, the fact remains that if they do a search and destroy mission then leave, they'll be back again in another year. Best to find a permanent solution for Gaza.

Even if they do find weapons in a school somewhere there will be no children in that school that weren't put there by Hamas as human shields to protect the weapons from being destroyed by Israeli troops... My guess is if they find that they will do their absolute best to avoid killing the children, but they won't go so far that they let them keep the weapons.

By the time this is over, their own videos of their celebrations of barbaric rapine, rape and torture will still cede the high ground to Israel.

I don't think Israel will be taking an old woman in a wheelchair who survived the holocaust as a POW, for example.

The IDF will defend themselves but, as you mentioned, they'll need to go through Gaza brick by brick to clear it of Hamas terrorists.

One possible solution is a UN occupation force much like in the Balkans. Of course, when dealing with rabid terrorists like ISIS and Hamas, it could end up like Lebanon in the 80s. The peacekeeping forces will leave and the IDF will have to finish the job.

Agreed the IDF will be professional about killing terrorists and trying to preserve innocent life. As with any war, there will be those caught in the crossfire.

1. You've got a point. If they had come out with a "We're responding to this and that...", they would have at least a specific for world assessment instead of letting everyone take sides and speculate.

Not sure that would be a good thing for Israel. While I understand their horror and rage at the brutal surprise attacks earlier this week, one must always keep in mind that about 2 million innocents live crammed there in Gaza. People who just want to live their lives. Hamas is going to be far more effective at killing Palestinians than anything else.

isn't it rather a gathering place for all the Muslims who don't WANT to be innocent?......I mean, innocent people have the entire world to choose from.....how many of those two million are actually FROM Gaza?.....
