The only way for there to be peace in Israel/Palestine

Two state solution is dead for the foreseeable future.

Whatever legitimate grievances the Palestinians had were swept away from the public conciousness by video of Hamas fighters taking hysterical joy in chasing down and murdering terrified and unarmed civilians trying to escape at a musical festival, and grotesquely celebrating their 'glorius' triumph over the dead bodies of their victims.

The ones who deserve our concern or prayers are the innocent children of Israel and Gaza.

Agreed on all points.

To be clear, the Two-State Solution was first proposed and established by the Brits in 1947. In 1948 when Israel declared their independence, that solution fell apart. It has never worked for a few reasons. Mainly because outside forces are willing to feed the militant Palestinians weapons and training.

While the West Bank is relatively stable, Gaza has always been a den of terrorists-in-training. The atrocities of the past few days by Hamas soldiers was not by accident. They planned this and now they must pay for it.

2. The Palestinians must unite under a single governing authority that has the power to negotiate deals on behalf of them all. Hamas might control Gaza but it does not control the West Bank or East Jerusalem. Israel needs a legitimate partner in order to negotiate peace and Hamas ain't it, mostly because there are 1.5M Palestinians outside of Gaza.

good point......maybe those 1.5M Palestinians should invade Gaza and throw Hamas out.......

Yep. The problem seems to be that when regime change comes to Israel the policy toward a two state solution changes. On the other side you have terrorists who seem to take great joy in committing atrocities.

It's never going to be solved, but Israel has never stood by any compromise regarding sharing ports, natural resources, and accessibility to water.

WHAT DO YOU know about Hamas?

That it’s sworn to destroy Israel? That it’s a terrorist group, proscribed both by the United States and the European Union? That it rules Gaza with an iron fist? That it’s killed hundreds of innocent Israelis with rocket, mortar, and suicide attacks?

But did you also know that Hamas — which is an Arabic acronym for “Islamic Resistance Movement” — would probably not exist today were it not for the Jewish state? That the Israelis helped turn a bunch of fringe Palestinian Islamists in the late 1970s into one of the world’s most notorious militant groups? That Hamas is blowback?

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. Listen to former Israeli officials such as Brig. Gen. Yitzhak Segev, who was the Israeli military governor in Gaza in the early 1980s. Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”)

“The Israeli government gave me a budget,” the retired brigadier general confessed, “and the military government gives to the mosques.”

“Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote.

They didn’t listen to him. And Hamas, as I explain in the fifth installment of my short film series for The Intercept on blowback, was the result. To be clear: First, the Israelis helped build up a militant strain of Palestinian political Islam, in the form of Hamas and its Muslim Brotherhood precursors; then, the Israelis switched tack and tried to bomb, besiege, and blockade it out of existence.

In the past decade alone, Israel has gone to war with Hamas three times — in 2009, 2012, and 2014 — killing around 2,500 Palestinian civilians in Gaza in the process. Meanwhile, Hamas has killed far more Israeli civilians than any secular Palestinian militant group. This is the human cost of blowback.

“When I look back at the chain of events, I think we made a mistake,” David Hacham, a former Arab affairs expert in the Israeli military who was based in Gaza in the 1980s, later remarked. “But at the time, nobody thought about the possible results.”

They never do, do they?

Will you be swapping your avatar for the PLO flag?

All the cool Marxists are doing it. The 10% to the Big Guy war is old news, y'all democrats have a new hero, Hamas, to support.

they will never allow peace. peace is not profitable for violent idiots.

violent idiots will always revert back to human on human predation, and creating enemies if peace breaks out.

Agreed, the Palestinains have some legitimate grievances. But no one is going to care about that when Palestinian terrorists are caught on video chasing terrified and unarmed civilians, and expressing ecstatic joy and triumph when they gun their victims down.

Optics are always going to trump some UN policy position paper.

I'm sure you thought that was clever and witty when you were typing it. Keep your day job, and don't expect your flaccid attempts at satire to get any chuckles at a neighborhood party.

The Down Under dumbass keeps proving he's a dumbass on a daily basis.

I'm certain his anger issues have gotten him into trouble before, if not jail. Now he only lies and bullies on the Internet. It's safer.
