NEW YORK — The progressive Democratic Socialists of America organization was harshly condemned by other US Democrats on Sunday for backing a New York City rally in support of Saturday’s Palestinian terror onslaught against Israelis.

Organizers billed the rally as supporting the Palestinian “right to resist,” shortly after Gaza terrorists slaughtered many hundreds of Israeli civilians in a surprise attack.

The New York branch of the Democratic Socialists of America advertised the event and expressed “solidarity with the Palestinian people and their right to resist.”

The protest was derided by New York democratic leaders, including Governor Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, US Senator Chuck Schumer, US Rep. Richie Torres, and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.

Other New York State leaders, including US Rep. Jerrold Nadler, Attorney General Tish James, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned the terror assault or expressed support for Israel

Israel would like nothing more than to live peacefully within its borders, to see Gaza and the West Bank flourish as neighbors. But the Palestinians, stirred up by propaganda, hate and money from Iran, can never accept that.

The widely criticized rally — where an Israeli flag was stomped on and burned and a pro-Israeli faction taunted with a swastika image — occurred just a day after Palestinian terrorists launched Saturday’s sneak attack on Israel on the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret, killing more than 800 people, mostly civilians, and abducting at least 150 more.

Among the pro-Palestinian side, the mood was celebratory and spiteful. Demonstrators chanted “700,” apparently referring to the confirmed number of Israeli fatalities in the attack so far, and held up the number seven on their hands while making throat-slitting gestures. Others flashed victory signs with their hands while shouting insults.

The country was thrown off guard on a major holiday called Simchat Torah, when Jews complete the annual cycle of reading the Torah scroll.

Gunmen encroached on towns and communities outside the Gaza Strip, firing at civilians and IDF soldiers.

More than 250 people who had been attending a music festival in southern Israel were gunned down, their bodies left strewn in the dirt.

Shooting hundreds of civilians at a music festival is not "resisting", and damages the credibility of any legitimate grievances the Palestinians have

If people notice, Hamas and their supporters talk about killing Jews not just Israelis

And our home grown rightwing filth

Some white supremacists are celebrating Hamas’s attack on Israel. Chairman of the antisemitic National Justice Party (NJP) Mike Penovich posted on Telegram, “Hats off to the Palestinians for taking bold and courageous action in their own cause and showing us that the Zionist regime is not invincible.” He called out right-wing nationalists who are not actively celebrating the attack, demanding, “Who’s paying you? Who are you afraid of? Is the Overton window shifting enough for you yet?”

Jon Minadeo, the leader of the antisemitic Goyim Defense League (GDL), posted on Gab “PALESTINIANS ARE KILLING THE SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN. God bless these brave men of Palestine.” While GDL supporters in the network’s telegram channel noted their happiness with posts such as, “Woke up to kikes in Israel getting their comeuppance. Life is good.” and “What a wonderful Shabbot [sic] today goys!”

While not huge there was a pro Palestine rally in San Francisco today outside the Israeli consulate. A number of local progressive leaders who are usually very happy to tweet about national/international events have been radio silent.

Long history of pro Palestine/anti-Israeli sentiment in the Bay Area (at least in progressive/leftist circles).
