So if the US bails on the Ukraine, what makes you think that China won’t read that as the US, after an immediate struggle, won’t also do the same to Taiwan? Thinking making it endurance effort will pretty much guarantee the US will give up in a year or two? Walk on commitments to one country, why wouldn’t they do the same elsewhere?

Xi is going to act/not act on Taiwan based on his own designs regardless of whether the US or Europe funds Ukraine

We've already more then shown we wil respond in Uk....whether we do if Xi attacks Taiwan is a question unto itself. right now i'd say it's 50-50

Mao's China has never occupied Taiwan.

The U.S. has many bases in close proximity to Taiwan. I put the odds of a Xi invasion at 1%.

Europe should do a whole lot more.

Last time I checked, Ukraine still receives revenue from Russia for the pipelines to Europe.

Hamas fired thousands of rockets at Israel, while dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border by air, land and sea in areas near the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning, marking an latest escalation in the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a televised address on Saturday that his country was now at war, while U.S. leaders pledged support for Israel.

More than 100 people are believed to have been taken by Hamas, though the exact number of hostages remained unclear.

"All I can say is that we know there are Americans among the hostages, but I cannot provide more details at this point," Michael Herzog, the Israeli ambassador to the United States, said during an appearance on CNN on Sunday.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told Newsweek on Monday that authorities are working to locate Americans, writing in a statement: "We can confirm that there are unaccounted-for U.S. citizens, and we are working with our Israeli partners to determine their whereabouts."

Neither U.S. nor Israeli authorities have provided details about how many Americans might be held hostage by Hamas.

Fox & Friends weekend co-host Will Cain reported that he was told by Israeli authorities that there are "dozens of American citizens among the hostages in Gaza," though Newsweek was unable to independently verify that report. Newsweek reached out to the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry via email for comment.
 
There are hundreds of thousands of Americans living in Israel, and hundreds of thousand more that visit regularly. Some of them my friends.

The odds seem pretty good that some of them would be victims of this terrorist retaliation.

There are a lot of moving parts here. It's hard to generalize.

Israel is surrounded by those who deny their right to exist. We can debate how/why Israel was formed, and if Palestine has a valid grudge. And yes...Israel has a long history of being a terrorist state, depending upon who the leader of the nation is. Begin, a terrorist leader in his own right, created a peace agreement with Egypt while building settlements in Palestine.

It seems that Israel could never get all factions within its govt. to agree on anything.

So we have 50 years of terrorists on both sides killing each other. Israel makes no attempts to scale back their stranglehold on Palestine, and Palestine makes no attempt to scale back its demand that Israel not exist.

It's a stalemate that will never end. Politically, Israel enjoys massive support from the U.S for two reasons. It's a wedge issue for American Jews. They will vote for the party that blindly supports Israel.

It also allows U.S post WW2 petroleum policy in the region to prosper. It puts military bases in a strategic region so that we can protect 'our' oil. Other than that, U.S govt doesn't give a fuck about Jews, or Israel.
